Hi. My name is Jake Matthews, and I am determined to run for every office I possibly can in Atlasia. I've come close to getting in the Senate, but the libheads prevented me. One day I will control all of Atlas forum, and my goal is to officially account for 50% of all posts on the forum. The only thing that stands in my way of achieving that is Kalwejt.

I believe if a Senator shows no Senate activity in a week, without a LOA, that should be reason for expulsion. It's time we buckle down on activity in the Senate.
11578  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Government / Re: SENATE BILL: Do Not PM List Act (Debating) on: March 11, 2011, 09:24:37 pm
4) If people ask me to quit PMing them, I do. We shouldn't need a law to mandate common courtesy.
We could still run into the problem of multiple people messaging someone who doesn't want to be messaged, not knowing they don't. This would solve that problem as there would be a public list available.

I agree and support Yank's potential amendment on putting this as part of another thread. No more stickies for now, please Smiley

I agree with the concerns of partinship taking over.

Just a suggestion, but how about creating certain...guidlines(?) that must be met in order to bring a vote up on explusion, such as not posting on the Senate floor for over a week?

With my resignation, the position of GTO Ambassador has become available.  Using my authority, I nominate Lief to that position, and urge the Senate to confirm him as soon as possible.
Shocked What a surprise!

Nice office, btw.

Senator Bingaman spends the day in Hilton Head, South Carolina with his family. When pressed by reporters to answer questions, Senator Bingaman simply says "This is family time for me, and I want the press to stay out of my family time."
11582  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Government / Re: SENATE BILL: No Contracts for Illegals Act (Debating) on: March 11, 2011, 10:41:47 am
I'd love to propose an amendment, HappyWarrior Smiley

No Contracts for Illegals Act

1)  Any organization with federal Atlasian government contracts which is found to knowingly employee illegal immigrants will lose their contracts promptly following the discovery of these immigrants.

2)  These organizations shall be added to a list of companies which shall not be given any sort of government contracts for one year.

3)  Any government money paid for these contracts shall be returned in fines.

4) The bill is not affecting contracts for companies, that employed illegal immigrants without knowing their legal status. Said companies are required to remove any illegal employees within a period of two months instead.

I'm not sure I do think I'd like to have some mechanism whereby those looking for federal contracts should actually have to pay attention to who they're hiring,  I don't like the idea of them just being able to say, "I didn't know!
Agreed. I'm not sure how we can really judge whether or not an employer actually knew they were hiring illegal immigrants.

Ben has informed me he has no interest continuing on as Obama. Pending ElectoralJews approval, would you be interested in that?

Could I be Evan Bayh instead? I wouldn't be a good enough Obama impersonator Sad
It's up to ElectoralJew. Personally, I'm Jeff Bingaman, so we'll be competing against each other.

Just so you all know, you're really lucky to have PiT as Emperor. The updates he's made to the Wiki has simply been phenomenal, go look for yourself if you don't believe me. He's really moving this region in the right direction.

Senator Bingaman releases a television ad which will air in all leadoff states:

Someone Like Me

(The ad opens with an image of a woman walking with her son to school.)

WOMAN: Tommy was afraid to walk to school. I didnít know what to do and I was desperate. In my desperation, I started making calls. Before I knew it, Senator Bingaman called me back. He worked together with the school district, and today the school and the street leading to it are safer than ever before. Iím voting for Jeff Bingaman because he understood what we needed, and he went to work for someone like me.

(The scene shifts and shows a truck driver speaking as he walks to his truck.)

MAN: I had been out of work for a year and I couldnít get access to any training funds to help. I had been out of work for a year and nobody was willing to help. I went to one of Jeff's town hall events and told my story. I was getting ready to leave, and someone told me the Senator wanted to see me. The next day, I was told that funding for driving school had been found. Iím voting for Senator Bingaman because, when the chips were down, he didnít forget about someone like me.

(The scene shifts and shows a young female teacher in the classroom.)

YOUNG WOMAN: Over the last six months, weíve paid more for our health care than ever before. During that time, my husband lost his job and weíve seen our benefits cut in half. Without being prompted, my Senator visited our classroom and talked with the other teachers and I about what he was doing to fight for education, and for the benefits we had earned. Why am I voting for Jeff Bingaman? Because he understands the lives and the challenges of someone like me.

(The scene shifts and shows Jeff Bingaman looking into the camera.)

BINGAMAN: Hi, I'm Jeff, and Iím asking for your support on Election Day. The issues Iíve talked about in this campaign are more than campaign rhetoric Ė they come out of my own experience. Iím the proud son of middle class parents and the life Iíve lived is a testament to the American dream, a dream I want to fight to make available to everyone who is willing to work hard and play by the rules. Your story is my story, and if you agree with me, then I would be honored to have your support.

Iím Jeff Bingaman, and you better believe I approve that message.
11595  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Regional Governments / Re: MA: The Teaching Salary Act (Debating) on: March 08, 2011, 10:14:11 am
We shouldn't be disincentivising teachers taking on jobs with more academically challenged students.

I completely agree. Until the section on basing salary on test scores is removed, I strongly urge the Assembly to vote down this legislation.

While a vote may not necessarily be needed, I don't think it hurts to give them hearings, just so they don't get too comfortable in their position. Wink

Executive Action

Fulfilling a campaign pledge, I'm proud to announce the creation of the "Welcoming Committee". This committee will be responsible for welcoming new members to the game, as well as showing them the rules of the game, and as Purple State once suggested, mentoring them. A more definite set of guidelines will be put in place once we have member for this committee. Which brings me to paragraph two....

I'm looking for a member of each party (JCP, RPP, UDL, POP) to volunteer to serve on this committee. Dallasfan and I will also participate in the committee. Anyone who is interested in serving on this committee please contact me ASAP.

Thank you,
President Tmthforu94
