Didn't see deadline until a few minutes ago! Tongue

Is Atlasia's national security adequate?  Have the latest terrorist attacks proven just how vulnerable we are?
Iím generally pleased with our national security system, though I do believe security should be strengthened in all federal offices to help prevent another bombing in the future.

Quote
Is the current national legislature the most ideal?  How would you like it changed?
If we had a larger and more active body of citizens, I would support creating a second chamber. Unfortunately, I donít think weíre at the activity levels needed to support that, so itíll take a backburner in my administration. I support keeping the status quo in the Senate of 5 regional Senators and 5 at-large Senators.

Quote
Do you believe Atlasia should be a much larger force in international intervention efforts?
No. I would only support war currently if we were attacked by another country or posed a serious threat. As Iíve said before, I support cuts in the defense department, and I think weíre currently spending way too much there, specifically in funding for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. I will be outlining those specific cuts later on in this debate.

Night 1 - Activity

Good Evening,

Tonight, we will begin Convention Speeches. We will have several speakers who will speak on a variety of issues on each night, and each night will conclude with a Keynote Address. Here is a list of Atlasians giving the keynote address for each of the 4 nights:

Night 1 - RPP Chairman and Senator North Carolina Yankee
Night 2 - Senator ahduke99
Night 3 - Senator Dallasfan65
Night 4 - Former Governor and Senator Tmthforu94

The floor is now open to speeches (you know who you are Tongue). If anyone would still like to give a speech, please contact me ASAP.

We will continue from where we left off yesterday, to finish off game reform.

Do you believe that Atlasia is oversimplified or overcomplicated?

Especially compared to other political simulations, I donít think this game is overcomplicated. Obviously, itís a bit overwhelming to someone new to the game, but they should be expecting that. I think the Introduction to Atlasia thread is a great service for new members, as I remember using it myself. I also think the idea of a Welcoming Committee could also be very beneficial to helping new members get adjusted.

Quote
What is your ideal vision for Atlasia after your presidency?

I would like to see Atlasia more active, and I think just about every candidate would great thatíd be a prime objective. Wink By the end of my Presidency, Iíd like to at least see substantial reform to the GM position, a better transition for new members into the game, and more of a focus on foreign policy than the current. We also need more buildings in Atlasia named after Senator Duke!

11755  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Am I alone in thinking... on: February 09, 2011, 07:12:52 pm
Yes, it's me.

I know this might be a surprise, but I think J.J.  a)is talking sense here b)should be in a position to run if he wants to and c)might split the right and allow a leftwing victory in the Presidential election (cynical me!).
I don't think he could have made it any clearer that it's one of his main reasons.
11756  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Am I alone in thinking... on: February 09, 2011, 07:00:08 pm
I'm not upset at all, first off. I'm annoyed. I don't mind campaign criticisms, I welcome it. But many of the criticism you are giving are either a) completely unrelated to my campaign, b) already clarified in my campaign thread/debates. I think it's extremely unclassy of you to be only running to split the right. Tell me, how is a socialist going to help split the right? You've united us more than anything, and many on here realize how pathetic this all is.

I would argue right now that I've ran the most active and have talked more about policy than any other candidate in this race. However, I expected the left to still attack me for not being policy-related, picking up on a theme Marokai tried to use over and over again. I was expecting this, especially if there was any chance I may win, because Dave forbid a non-liberal ever becomes President again.

As apparently you donĎt read anything I say, again, here was part of the response I gave to Kalwejtís question regarding Wormyís comments(notice bolded part):

How would you comment a low-road, smear campaign conducted by Populares member Wormyguy?

Is that a stance Tmthforu94/Dallasfan65 team is approving, or you're disavowing such kind of actions?
My campaign will not engage in the personal attacks that are going on, nor do we approve of them.

I also privately spoke to Wormy about it, as well as apologized to Marokai and let him know what was said does not at all reflect in the views of my campaign. Iím a candidate, not a babysitter. Iím not going to go around scolding anyone who criticizes another ticket, and thatís what you want me to do, too bad. If they get out of hand and make things personal, Iíll say something. But much of youíre argument against me seems to revolve around my supporters, not me.

If you have a problem with a specific position I support, you donít have to create a bitchfest about it like you did. Just ask me about it in my thread. Youíve asked me questions in there before (which pleased me), and I answered them.

Now, letís make this campaign about the issues. The left seems to keep chiming this message, even though theyíre the ones who seem to be creating all of the drama. Thereís currently a debate going on, and I encourage all Atlasians to read whatís happening there. And as always, if anyone has a question, just ask me in my thread, or in pm. Whatever floats your boat.
11757  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Second Presidential Debate, Feb. 8 - Feb 10 (OPENING STATEMENTS 1 - 4 PM PST) on: February 09, 2011, 05:56:59 pm
What is the usefulness of the Wiki in your eyes?

The Wiki is extremely useful for anyone who wants to learn about the gameís history, as well as if a new member who wants to learn how things operate. If I am ever talking to a newbie, I always make sure to refer them to the Wiki.

Quote
Do you wish to implement it more into Atlasia?

I do. As Governor, I made it a priority to keep the entire Mideast page as up-to-date as possible, making at least an update or two every couple of weeks. I think the bill proposed by Senator Bgwah for a Wiki Article of the Month is a great way to encourage user involvement.  Hopefully, no matter who is President, we can try and get more active citizens involved in updating the Wiki, and hopefully weíll see less and less stub articles.

Quote
Are the current legislative proceedings ideal?
Iíd say so. On any important piece of legislation that reaches my desk, Iíll make a few sentence comment on why Iím signing or vetoing the bill. I did something similar to that as Governor of the Mideast region, and I think itís a great way to try and get citizens to
understand what the bill will do.

Quote
How would you currently improve the inactivity issue in Atlasia?
Hopefully one way to help get activity going in the government is to reform the GM position so both the Senate and regional legislatures can have more to work with. On top of that, I would support a small reduction of posts required to join Atlasia to try and avoid spamming. Perhaps 69 would be a good number? Tongue

Something else that was discussed earlier in this campaign was the idea of a ďWelcoming CommitteeĒ. I personally love this idea, and will lead a charge to get that started up within the first week or two of my administration. This program would help smooth the transition for new members interested in getting active in Atlasia, and hopefully instead of newbies voting a couple times then falling off the rolls, theyíll stay active. I think a great way to encourage that activity is encouraging them to run for regional legislatures. I have first hand experience in that area, and I know that regional legislatures are a great way to get a newbie active. Wink

Iím sure my opponents also have other ideas I may not have mentioned on how we can stimulate the game. I donít care who proposes the idea, if I like it, Iíd try and implement in my administration. This election should be about a collaboration of ideas, and thatís what I hope to make it.
11758  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Am I alone in thinking... on: February 09, 2011, 05:43:27 pm
Well, I did give you several hours, and I did put out a request earlier in general.  Taoisigh and I had a day's worth of conversations with him.  All the while, someone was trying to persuade me not to run, not to "split the right."  Now I see you claim that the only reason Taoisigh is running is to "split the left."

While ideology is important, so are the practical aspects of government.  I really don't care about the "Left" or the "Right."  I'm concerned with how Atlasia functions.
Most job shifts usually last more than an hour or two.

If you really don't care about the left or right, then why are you running with someone who's only in this race to try and divide the right?

Oh, and I guess I should be prepared for attacks to come now because Yankee is joining in on the discussion. Looks like my "stormfront thugs" or whatever silly name you branded my supporters are here. Tongue

11760  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Government / Re: Confirmation Hearing: tmthforu94 to be Attorney General on: February 09, 2011, 02:58:39 pm
Well, to answer Kalwejt's post, I believe the primary responsibility of the Attorney General is to be the principal law enforcer and adviser of the federal government, not to update the Wiki, and I would hope that any nominee for the position be prepared for that role.
The primary reason of Fritz appointing me was to make sure the Wiki stayed completely up-to-date. I can assure you that if I have to lead a case, I will be prepared to lead it, and I'll do an effective job.
11761  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Am I alone in thinking... on: February 09, 2011, 02:40:59 pm
*Sigh*

There's so many different things I could respond to, but I'll try and keep this as brief as possible.

First off, I'm disappointed that you Belgian, that you’re in this race just for the sake of “splitting the left”. You can criticize me all you want, but I’m in this race because I think I can help improve the game. You’re just in the race for political reasons.

You know, I've heard someone suggest that I was in this race to "split the right."  I actually approached someone from RPP to serve as my running mate, with the full understanding that once the reforms were begun, I'd resign.  That person was you.

Now, I have to question how serious about game reform you really are.  Is your campaign about changing the game, or just an effort to grub for votes?
I had no time to respond to your pm. I was at my job, and by the time I got back, you had already given it to someone else. I'm sorry I have a life and can't be on this forum 24/7.

Thank you for voting against the Progressive Taxation Act.

What do you think your biggest accomplishment of your term has been?
11763  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Government / Re: Confirmation Hearing: tmthforu94 to be Attorney General on: February 09, 2011, 09:33:32 am
What experience/qualifications/etc. do you have with Atlasian law that would prepare you for a position such as this?
I mainly took this job to help out on the Wiki Statue. Like Kalwejt, I do not have a lot of experience defending Atlasian law. However, throughout my 2+years of service to this game, I have come to understand the law very well, and have actively followed just about every court case that has occured during my time. I know the procedure very well, and I'd know what to do as well. There are also several other Atlasians who are experienced in law who I know could also help me out here, if need be.
11764  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Am I alone in thinking... on: February 09, 2011, 09:29:12 am
Rather than recruiting people off-site, we should make sure that the people who are already here will feel an incentive and potential to enter the game and feel like they have something to contribute.

Good Lord...

Quote
Do you believe that out-of-site membership should be encouraged (as in branching out to other political sims and inviting them to join us)?

As President, I won't be pushing for off-site recruitment, and would not continue the President's task force on it. Teddy and I were both put in charge of off-site recruitment, and while I did manage to get one person to register to the forum, they never even got back on. I'm not quite sure what Teddy did on the matter. Wink However, if a member ever was recruited off-site, I think we should be welcoming of them and give them a fair chance to succeed in this game.
11765  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Second Presidential Debate, Feb. 8 - Feb 10 (OPENING STATEMENTS 1 - 4 PM PST) on: February 09, 2011, 12:25:22 am

What is the most important aspect of game reform you wish to push through in your administration?

I think my biggest accomplishment would be to reform the Game Moderator position. Several ideas have been presented before me, all of them very good. I hope this debate will be just one of many instances where we can discuss and debate which idea is the best. The idea I originally had consisted of creating two GMís, each with different focuses. Another idea Iíve heard, which I really like, is possibly making the SoEA and SoIA either ďCo-GMísĒ or assistants. Itíd certainly bring some relevance to the positions, especially SoIA, a position many want to do away with.

Quote
Do you believe that the current voting system is ideal? Why or why not?

I think most would agree with me that a private ballot would be the most ideal, however, itís unrealistic. The chances of fraud would be very high in that situation. Therefore, Iíd never support changing the current system of public ballots.
11766  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Government / Re: Confirmation Hearing: tmthforu94 to be Attorney General on: February 09, 2011, 12:15:09 am
Tmthforu, will you keep a format of dividing statute page into Senate/year/month sections, and will you continue to add brief summaries to supreme court case pages?

(sorry, I had to ask something Tongue)
Thanks, I love questions. Tongue

Absolutely to your first question, which wouldn't be too hard, since for now, I'll only be in there for February (and I guess early March). For your second question, yes, I think that's a great idea. I do notice that several recent court cases don't have any sort of summary, and I will try working on making some summaries for those upon being confirmed.
11767  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Government / Re: Confirmation Hearing: tmthforu94 to be Attorney General on: February 09, 2011, 12:11:51 am
Is there any specific area of the wiki you hope to update right away?
The requirements for the AG regarding Wiki are for the Senate Statue, Constitutional Amendments, and Supreme Court decisions. Not only will I make sure all of those pages are updated frequently, I'll also try and keep the main page as up to date as possible. Beyond that, I'll be actively looking to update random outdated articles, and will try and get a page for as many members who currently don't have one as possible. And if anyone doesn't have Wiki access but would like to make edits to their page, I could certainly help them there.
11768  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Government / Re: Confirmation Hearing: tmthforu94 to be Attorney General on: February 08, 2011, 11:44:15 pm
Hey! Never did I think I'd be sitting on this side of a confirmation, especially for Attorney General! Tongue

After Marokai resigned as AG, I contacted Fritz, and let him know that for as long as he needed me to, I could update the Senate Statue on Wiki. The President then asked me if I'd be willing to serve out the remaining few weeks as AG. Though I originally declined, he finally persuaded me to. Which brings me to this hearing!

I'm open to any questions the Senate may have.

Another thing about Tmth I don't really like is his failure to do his dirty chores himself. Criticism is directed at him and it are his supporters who are the ones who defend him. His opponents are never directly attacked by Thmth but by the people behinf him. The awfull, disgusting way you tried to direct a tsunami of personal abuse at Marokai is the vilest, but not the only example of that. Why didn't Tmth condemn that awfull attack there and then, instead merely contenting himself to say 'It's not me'?

I am sure that bgwah would love to know that he is a "tmth backer". Tongue That scene was hardly the work of one candidate or one party.

It was the work of Wormyguy, a Tmth supporter, and I haven't heard a condemnation coming from Tmth (or his minions for that matter).

Before making attacks like this one, do your researchÖ.

Other than that, I see there have been specific attacks on my lack of substance. If you have a question youíd like answered, please ask me a question. Iíve stated numerous times Iíd be willing to answer any question given to me. Regarding specific policy, instead of posting it here, where itíll likely be overlooked, Iíll be more than happy to address some of the concerns in the debate currently under way. However, one quick response to Marokai - I have never asked Badger to just give me cuts. Will I work with him and take his suggestions? Of course, heís the GM. What was in that message I sent him? Specific cuts I had in mind, to which he responded to this evening.

I feel like I can speak for many others in this game when I say that this isnít whatís best for the game. This game isnít about defeating the right or defeating the left. This election is about improving this game. Nothing more, nothing less. I donít care what party youíre in, what ideology you belong to. If you have a good idea, whether itís now or if I manage to become President, weíll run with it.

For the second time now, thank you, Archangel, for hosting this debate. And thank you to Oakvale, as well as any future candidates, for agreeing to do this debate. Smiley

Iím running in this election to give Atlasia an active, center-right administration. I have outlined various positions of mine throughout this campaign, and I hope to be able to go more in-depth on some of them during the debate. One new issue I think needs to be addresed in the game - with the departure of the member in charge of ďIntroduction to AtlasiaĒ, I think it is essential that we quickly establish a new introduction thread. I hope to be able to expand on the current Intro thread by showing a list of clearly defined rules to the game - qualifications for running for various offices, how to get on the ďDo Not PM listĒ, and many others.

A lot of the problems currently facing the game deal with game reform, and will have to be solved no matter who the next President is. I hope to use this debate to work with my fellow candidates on discussing and debating possible solutions to the problems we face.

Thank you, and Dave Bless!
