Everybody's talking about PUMA.
But who or what is that ominous PUMA? Huh

What is that anyway? I thought this thread was about Formula One or about the Green Party? Huh
1628  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Presidential Election Trends / Massachusetts on: July 24, 2012, 09:16:36 am
It doesn't seem like Romney would be able to win Massachusetts.
If even a moderate Republican who used to be governor of this state doesn't have a shot there, will Massachusetts ever turn red again?

I personally think she looks like she were Brandy Norwood's Inuit twin sister.
(Does anyone still know Brandy?)

Exactly. I don't like her hair or her skin.

Are you a racist? Smiley
1632  Election Archive / 2012 Elections / How would a VP candidate Bobby Jindal affect the Southern vote? on: July 23, 2012, 04:48:30 pm
Or in other words: Do Southern racists only hate black people?
1633  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Presidential Election Trends / Oklahoma on: July 23, 2012, 02:58:10 pm
Under which circumstances would Oklahoma vote for a Democratic presidential candidate?
Remember, the last time OK went blue was 1964, and both 2004 and 2008 all of its counties were red.
1634  Election Archive / 2012 Elections / Re: What will be the closest state on: July 23, 2012, 02:51:14 pm
I'd say New Hampshire for Romney and North Carolina for Obama.

Are there even any states that are gonna swing towards the blue (= Democratic) column?

As a German I have to acknowledge problems with:

1. aspects

2. aspects

3. aspects

4. "interlaced" relative clauses

5. at times realizing of explicative relative clauses

6. uncountable nouns

7. r-sound. I still can't say squirrel or rural.
1638  General Politics / Individual Politics / Circumcision #3 on: July 18, 2012, 05:13:47 pm
1. Why is male circumcision so much more accepted than the circumcision of girls?

2. Why do the Germans oppose genital mutilation so heavily while the Americans support it (and regularly practice it)?
1639  General Politics / Individual Politics / Circumcision - yes or no? on: July 14, 2012, 09:27:36 am
Circumcision of boys has been declared illegal by the Cologne state court at the end of June. It should be viewed as illicit injury, ruled the court.
It goes on to say that the right of education was not unduly affected if the parents had to wait until the son decides upon a circumcision as a sign of affiliation at a future date.
Hence circumcisions have to be deemed unlawful, even if the parents have approved of the procedure.

In this case a doctor had circumcised a 4-year-old boy at his Muslim parents' request.
Two days later postoperative hemorrhage occurred, the child was taken to the emergency room. The Cologne public prosecutor's department gained knowledge of this incident and brought charges against the physician.
The Cologne district court acquitted him at first instance because an informed consent existed.
The Cologne state court approved the doctor's acquittal as he can claim mistake of law due to the unclear legal situation.

Do you personally endorse these judicial decisions?
