Automatically rejected failed asylum seekers and people who are already legal residents of other EU countries? That's such a completely obvious, logical position, it's insane that it even has to be debated.

Merkel should just resign now.

She's so worn out by now and doesn't even have her government under control anymore.

Add this to the fact of increasing corruption, incompetence and security-related scandals such as the BAMF one or the frequent killings and rapes by immigrants that she allowed in.

Her time is up. She's just limping along for the next 4 years because she's power-hungry and glued to her seat ... and it's painful to watch.

The odds are that Merkel, or whoever replaces her, isn't going to win the most seats in the next election anyways.

I'd bet on AfD picking up a narrow plurality of seats, and ultimately being able to form a minority government.

This is embarrassing. Do you know how minority governments work?

I'm assuming nothing will happen and Merkel will remain Chancellor but some concession to Seehofer.

That's boring though.

What's more likely, Seehofer launching a coup within the Union and becoming Chancellor.

Or a new election in which the CSU runs independently?

The first scenario would be nice because it would get Merkel out, the second would be nice because an independent CSU could serve as a more socially acceptable AfD.

I'm hearing that Söder wanted to break up the Union but Seehofer didn't so he resigned. This just kicks the can further down the road but it also makes a break up more likely.

This is supposedly a compromise. The migrants aren't immediately kicked out but the CSU forced Merkel to take an ostensibly harder line than she would have liked.

It's only ostensibly harder though.

German run refugee camps on the border are still going to have a higher standard of living than large parts of Africa. They aren't going to deter migrants.

This just proves the whole CDU-CSU dust up was political theater for the Bavarian elections.

So weird to see people who ostensibly immigration restrictionists calling on a solution FROM THE EU. Do they think an EU immigration plan is going to be good? They're either stupid or just politically posturing.
