Why is Golden such a good candidate for rural voters?

Born and raised in Leeds, a rural town & went to college in the district
Served in the military
Worked for Susan Collins on the Homeland Security committee which shows he isn't a "partisan out of touch liberal"
Has worked closely with firefighters and police officers in workers comp legislation and securing funding with FIRE/SAFER grants

Purely on an image basis, he's "one of them". He's a military guy with tats on his arm who grew up in a small town. He isn't a lawyer from the city coming to lecture them.

Democrats should actively recruit more guys like this. Cain was the worst possible fit

He is pretty much tailor-made for this district. Lucas St. Clair is an out of touch ultralib. Tim Rich is a crazy person. Craig Olson is a nobody.

Yeah, a Hillary clone was a dreadful choice, and the fact that she was handed the nomination in 2016 is embarrassing.

Had Troy Jackson won the primary in 2014 there's every likelihood he'd be the congressman from Maine's second district right now.

Absolutely. Troy Jackson was perfect. Oh well.

And less than 24 hours later, Fulford is out.

Suspicious.

Hmm

Seriously, if we go into November with Mills and St. Clair topping the ticket we deserve everything that happens to us.

What’s wrong with Mills?

Jared Golden has recevied the endorsement of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, undercutting St. Clair's "i'm more progressive" messaging.

Nice

If Lucas St. Clair is the nominee, then the Maine Democratic Party should officially dissolve in the second district. There is absolutely no point to it existing as an organization if it runs such terrible candidates against one of the weakest members of the entire House of Representatives.

And people wonder why I changed to a maroon avi.

In hindsight it’s too bad Michaud ran for Governor

I mean he would’ve won except Cutler.

That’s probably true.

Maine Democrats have a habit of nominating the blandest most centrist candidates who run lifeless campaigns and then just blame third parties as a cover for why they can't get their crap together.

Yea and they went the other route with Emily Cain who lost twice. A bold progressive is just not going to fly in ME-02.
Emily Cain is basically a Hillary Clintonite. She’s not a bold progressive at all.

Troy Dale Jackson is a bold progressive. He’s a logger from Allagash and leads the Democrats in the Senate.

Man, I wish Troy Jackson was running...

To no real surprise, Golden wins on the second ballot.

Excellent. ME-2 moves up my board now.

Poliquin's rich buddies allow him to have more money than Golden, but Golden is raising mostly from small donations:

Also Poliquin's consultant stuck his foot in his mouth when he accused Jared of not having a career outside of politics in that article:

Every cycle some idiot says this about someone who served, and every cycle it blows up in their face
