Looks like Rubio's not gonna have Scott's back.

I don’t believe he and Scott particularly like each other

I have no idea as to what their relationship with one another is like, but I do know that the Scott and Rubio orbits seemed (or at least did a few years ago) to have existed entirely apart. You'd almost think Rubio was the Senator from Cuba or something considering how little pull he actually seems to have in Tally. Which is weird because he used to be Speaker.

Its almost like as if they don't respect him!

In fact, everyone in town when I first dropped in (~late Summer) were Jeb! supporters. Everyone. Even Matt Gaetz, who was among the first major Florida politicians to ditch and switch for Trump. Tallahassee might have well been called Jeb! City. This is the only place I have ever really even seen Jeb! stickers on cars, and that was like once two years ago.

I suppose I could see a federal politician more in tune with the Miami expats than the greasy wheels in Tallahassee not being super tight with a Hovernor more focused on state issues.

Good. Let the GOP waste its money and attention on a futile pickup, and let Scott make his kids hate him by wasting their inheritance as well.

You honestly don't see how this could be bad for the Democrats even if Nelson wins?

There are still too many variables for Scott in this race. Most notably hurricane season which starts in a few weeks

More like three months, but yes. This race will be quite fluid

Hurricane season actually starts at the beginning of June, so we're getting pretty close. This year is expected to be worse than average, though most think it won't be as bad as last year. Based on forecasts, we'll probably see between 2-4 major hurricanes from Atlantic, as well as a handful of smaller ones. Florida had one of the stronger responses in 2017, so if that replicates this year, I'd expect that to work in Scott's favor.

IMO this race is a toss-up right now with Nelson slightly favored - still a lot that can happen and these are two strong candidates. Probably comes down to how bad the national environment gets for Republicans (like many other races).

I still regard it as Lean D but yes

For people who constantly complain about “whataboutism,” you certainly use it a lot.
Right?

And he didn’t make fun of the reporters looks, he made fun of his washy washy attitude. The video made it clear and the voters responded.

I'm always amazed at what lengths people will go to defend Trump. It's ok to admit he made a mistake. Whatever helps you sleep at night guy lol.

Trump also has insulted Rosie O'Donnell, Alicia Machado, Carly Fiorina, that one accuser of his, and probably many more people I am forgetting about; all based on their looks.
And I don’t care, because he’s also getting illegal immigrants out, heroin off the street, and saved us from TPP. I couldn’t possibly care less about those examples you gave and so did the rest of the country.

Translation: “lol I have no standards of conduct”

I really don't have to answer for my vote. It speaks for itself as a reactionary act. Don't you have some deportations to haplessly protest or something?

You don't have to answer for your vote. Defending the guy 100%, especially when he did something inappropriate, is another thing. I think Obama was underwhelming at best for foreign policy and Hillary was a garbage candidate. It's ok to admit that someone you support did something stupid or has flaws. I'd have a lot more respect for people who can admit this (in relation to Trump and the reporter) so we could move on. Deny, deny, deny only makes things worse.

Exactly! You can (and should!) vote for whoever you want who best represents your interests, Sanchez. If that’s Donald Trump, then that’s Donald Trump.

Just don’t expect any serious engagement from the rest of us when you uncritically cheerlead a moron and admit to “not caring” that his personal behavior is beneath the dignity of the office irregardless of where he aligns with you on policy. Nor is “lol suck it lefties” a convincing defense of conservatism, even the Buchananite kind you’ve been known for years to subscribe to.

Being unable to separate policy agreement from *any* critique of conduct, to the point where you deny things happened and have regurgitated conspiracy theories about “deep state coups” don’t indicate someone who is serious about discussing the issues of the day in a mature fashion.

Scott has been getting a lot of bad press recently, including this piece in Florida's largest newspaper

Rick Scott’s outsider image as Senate candidate clashes with Florida reality

Another:

Rick Scott: ‘I don’t know what I would do differently’ in Puerto Rico

That second headline is probably worse, as it clashes with what has otherwise been pretty positive rhetoric on PR by Scott (by GOP standards of course)

I keep seeing Scott's ads saying "we've had enough career politicians now". He ran for governor, ran for reelection, and now that he's been term limited out he's running for a different political office. I think he's a career politician now. Admittedly not for as long as Nelson, but it's not like Scott is a citizen legislator who's going to go back to the family farm when Congress is out of session. It's like Republican messaging these days is 100% geared towards people who don't think about anything for more than ten seconds.

Add to that, what is inherently wrong with being in office a long time? I'm sure most the people who think these are great ads wouldn't vote for a newcomer Democrat over a Republican who's been in office 20 years.
Because Trump ran on being a non-career politician, every GOP member is now running on it. Wouldnt surprise me if Richard Shelby ran on being "a new voice for congress".
That’s been going on since 2010.

Yeah politicians running explicitly on not being politicians despite definitely being politicians is as old as Tippecanoe and Tyler Too

New survey of over 400 Latino voters shows Nelson ahead by 3 (44%-41%).

With ~400 total voters, some of those subsamples must be really small.

I’d really rather have a poll of the whole race than another poll of Latinos.

Man, what a riveting, mature, thought-provoking, intellectual discussion going on here. Seriously, the mods should probably step in at some point.
