And, with that, I'll butt out of your affairs, mostly Tongue

I'd like to see Xahar's concern about a state of emergency addressed, along with the current two amendments at vote to be added to the new constitution, provided they pass, but that's all up to y'all now.

Good luck everybody!

It doesn't seem like anyone else wants to collaborate.  For the sake of having further discussion here, what's the reasoning behind not allowing recall elections?

Oakvale said he didn't like the idea of consistently having recalls for the sake of politicization, and recalls have functioned to slow down the legislature of the Pacific multiple times.

I'm sure he has more to say than that, but that's the gist of it.

Is there any way we can get terrorist organizations exiled from the Pacific or sent to a high security prison in a rural swath in the desert or the tundra?

Well, you could try to pass an anti-terrorism law or something. I'm not sure why you'd have to make the jail in the middle of nowhere, though. Also, this definitely should not be written into the constitution.

Ah, Cinci taking one for the team in order to move things along.

I suggest you add the Women's Rights Amendment and the Amendment about Vacancies at Governor to the constitution, and perhaps strike the clause about special elections and recalls if you don't like it.

It's cool if you do that; just remember to delete all instances of special elections being declared illegal Smiley

Also, good work PJ on combing through the thread to find everything that needed to be done.

Would people vote against a new constitution solely on the basis of pulling The People from the name?

I knew about the gubernatorial elections thing. I thought we would put it in once we sorted out the gubernatorial issues we have now. In any case, it would be fine to put it in now so we don't forget.

Having a confirmation hearing every two months might be unwieldy.

The amendment has passed with three ayes, and two not voting. (Do I ask PJ to sign it?

No, PJ doesn't have to sign off on it. Amendments to a bill on the floor are entirely Council business.

Plus, this is a wholesale amendment to the constitution, so PJ won't get to sign it, regardless.

The cut down to 3 Councilors was completely intentional on my part. A Council of 5 tends to be inactive.

That is what the text reads, and I am in support of it. However, if we merge with the Midwest, it should  be bumped back to five.

Absolutely.

I think it's good we keep things like this in mind. If the Pacific and the Midwest essentially become one, then it would be reasonable to think that the current constitution that we're working on would be the basis for the larger region's new constitution.
