This is a very weird sort of burn that only works in context. But basically MasterJedi proposes something stupid, follows up to a response with a fairly irrelevant point, Snowstalker responds with something even MORE stupid and Sanchez follows up with a point that is valid and ends up looking the best of all. It only works if you read the entire part of the thread:

Want to get China on our side? Promise them all of Siberia if they would side with us against Russia if it were to actually come to anything. If it was the US/Europe/China/Japan agianst Russia they would probably be more likely to back down.

The real problem with oakvale's statement is that it's pretty much the epitome of Moderate Heroism that he's mocked before. "Reagan and Thatcher's reforms were needed but they went TOO FAR." That's basically something that could come directly from benconstine.

At least without the elaboration on what specifically he's referring to. Don't see how you can argue things like arming terrorists and propping up apartheid are needed, just taken too far.

Please stop. This has gone on long enough. It was funny for about a day, but you need to stop. You are like a cancer of the Forum's brain and lower the quality of every thread in which you post. Your posts could be written by an edgy-True-Leftist algorithm and you seem to truly enjoy being an asshole. Nothing you say is interesting or contributes a shred of value to this forum anymore, and the part that really saddens me is that you used to be decent. Sure, you weren't one of the greats, but most of us aren't and that's OK. Being infamous doesn't get you anything but the hatred of a lot of people, and if you're just starved for attention because your parents don't love you you can just admit it and go see a therapist. Sheesh, Gully.  How many pages are you going to drag this thread out?  And what is this, about the XVth "petition to ban so-and-so" thread you've made?  How many people pile onto these threads, discussing the ins and outs of who should be banned, as if this is some kind of reality TV show, rather than people's lives?  This is really sad.

I'm sorry that I have to piss on your freak show, but your repeated "petition to ban Poster X" threads show you to be an attention seeking troll (he says diplomatically).  Your contributions do little good, and these threads have become a forum circus, which are followed by the chronically bored and 'ironists' alike.  It's clear that no matter how much we try to dissuade you, you ignore our advice and are really only interested in the attention.  Given the difficulties of your life and the way that you abuse the forum, I think it would be best if you were banned instantly.

Right now Atlas is in a pretty terrible state even by its own standards. I think we should take steps towards improving it and this would be the first.

I'm afraid such a comparison would be extremely inaccurate.  The Davis faux-scandal and the FitzGerald scandal differ in a number of key ways.  Let's review the material again, shall we? 

1. Unlike Paul Davis, who had turned this into a lean Democratic race before the strip club incident was revealed, Ed FitzGerald never had a snowball's chance in Detroit of winning.

2. Unlike Paul Davis, who was just getting a lap dance in a strip club 16 years ago and wasn't even been married at the time, FitzGerald was pretty clearly having an affair.  In fact, those who insist he was probably just innocently sitting in an empty parking lot with a woman who wasn't his wife despite the fact that his version of the incident doesn't hold up at all should probably be referred to as "FitzGerald truthers." 

3. Unlike Paul Davis, who by all accounts didn't do anything illegal, Ed FitzGerald was also illegally driving a number of vehicles (including a county car) for about ten years because he didn't bother to get his driver's license renewed (for reasons unknown).  Furthermore, FitzGerald punished multiple individuals for driving without a license even as he himself was doing the exact same thing.

4. Unlike Paul Davis, who hasn't done anything like this, Ed FitzGerald sent out fundraising e-mails shortly after his scandal was reported which made it sound like his son's cancer (IIRC) appeared coming back in a pathetic attempt to raise money off his son's illness and try to distract people from the fact that he (FitzGerald) was imploding after being exposed as a law-breaking, womanizing, hypocrite who no one ever really liked in the first place (except Adam). 

5. Unlike Paul Davis, who is running against a highly unpopular Governor with very few supporters other than people who will reflexively vote for anyone if he/she has an R next to their name, Ed FitzGerald is facing a Governor with average popularity with a solid support base who *used to be* extremely unpopular, but now generally gets a "meh, he's okay, I guess" rating from many Ohioans outside of the Republican party.

6. Unlike Paul Davis, who is still running a very competitive race, Ed FitzGerald has basically all-but-suspended his campaign and only failed to do that because it'd mean his name would be out of the papers and that may well be all he has left

7. Unlike Paul Davis, whose race is probably now toss-up tilt R at worst, there is no chance FitzGerald can still pull out a win. 

8. Unlike Paul Davis, who won't hurt Democrats in the SoS race or Greg Orman in the Senate race even if Brownback wins, it is pretty much a given that FitzGerald will cost many good Democratic candidates their races (ex: the only statewide officer race that is now even remotely competitive is State Treasurer which has gone from Lean D to right on the border between Lean R and Toss-up tilt-R because of FitzGerald).

Study these notes and you should have no trouble with tomorrow's quiz.

Most importantly, dealing with mental illness does not take away from your value as a human being. Too many posts here - most of them Bushie's - imply otherwise.

I've followed this saga closely for the past few months and I'm increasingly angry at Bushie for this reason. His attitude is insulting to millions of Americans who seek help from psychiatrists for the purposes of treating their DSM-diagnosed pathologies but still manage to pursue successful careers, raise children and contribute to society. These people don't deserve to be implicitly denigrated by an obese moron who is blind to reality.

I'm past the point of wishing Bushie well so that he can get the help he needs. If he participates in the perpetuation of prejudicial attitudes towards the mentally unwell, he hardly deserves treatment or help.
