Talk about lousy choices...

United Russia - Putin's puppets
Communist Party of the Russian Federation - enough said
Liberal Democratic Party of Russia - the most misnamed party in the world, they are an extremist right wing party which supports the reannexation of all former Soviet Republicans as well as Iran and Alaska and using nuclear weapons if neccesary to do so.
Rodina bloc - these guys are basically ex-Communists and a coalition of left leaning groups upset with the ultra-corrupt Communist leadership.

These 4 are the only parties that passed the 5% threshhold to win seats. The other two:

Yabloko - basically a traditional liberal party. In favor of universal health care, a strong education system, cutting down the military, and other basic liberal goals. Probably my favorite, but unfortunately they fell 0.7% short of the 5% threshold in the last election.
Union of Right Forces - these guys are kind of the Libertarians. They're for privitization of most industries but also for governement reform. Only got 3.97% in the last election and thus won no seats.

Anyway, I probably would've voted Yabloko in the last election, but if it appears they can't win anymore seats I'll have to go with the Rodina bloc. The otehr 3 parties are quite horrible to put it mildly. Although I might vote Communist as long as there's no chance of them winning and restoring a system like the old Soviet union just to keep Putin in check which is neccesary and many suspect the Rodina was created to take votes away from the Communists. So I guess it depends on who was likely to win. So probably the Communists now out of neccesity, but in the long run I'd prefer the Rodina or Yabloko. I suppose it would depend on the situation in the next election (well assuming there is one...)

I would start a Libertarian Party and vote for it.

you basically got one already, that's what Union of Right Forces is.

Well the problem is Putin controls the whole media. Also note I mentioned if there is another election. Putin is constitutionally prohibited from serving another term but I really doubt that'll stop him if he wants to.
