My World Cultures teacher said that any party that has the words "national" or "people's" in it are likely...not good.

Wouldn't say that in every case, see Austria or New Zealand.

What about Spain? Or are fascists in power there?

The People's Party have some roots in ex-Francoist politicians and remnants of the regime after democratization, though admittedly this doesn't have much relevance today (think the ex-communist parties in Eastern Europe).
