Gusmao is definately leftist. How can FRETILIN be classified as anything other than left? Ghana has a two-party system, with a leftist and righist party, Kufnor is from the left wing one. Singh's party is fairly broad, but generally is considered left, and Singh would definately be a leftist to me. And Peronists may run the spectrum quite a bit, but Kirchner definately leans to the left end of them, plus he's working on bringing in the "Dirty War" criminals.

I guess it depends what you mean by a leftist, but most of his domestic policies have been left wing, especially by international standards. The thing is he also tries to pretend that aren't (the main reason why I've never been a fan of him) and tries to divert media attention away from them by pursing somewhat authoritarian measures on law and order etc.

Well it is a fact that he has moved Labour quite to the right, hence the term "New Labour". Labour is certainly far more right wing than it was in the 70s and 80s and is arguably to the right of the pre-Thachter Tories.

The idea that he's a sort of British Clinton is wrong (he's too moralistic for a start)

Being too moralistic is something I tend to associate with the right.

Hey Early, if Persson does lose could you post a picture of Princess Victoria instead of him? Even she has no real power and wouldn't even as Queen, I'd still prefer using her instead of Persson because she is HOT. Will definately be the best looking Head of State when she becomes Queen, even if just a figurehead. Her sister (Madeline I think) is really hot too.

I won't be online until late in the next vote, but I suggest to KIIC members that after Sampaio, should he be kicked out, our priorities should be Gusmao and Halonen. Of course, if he isn't, Sampaio.

Gusmao is one of the most interesting people remaining. Just because someone's from a small country doesn't make them uninteresting.

I was originally going to vote for Singh as I said above but now after reading the bios, I'm going to vote for Lagos.

I tried to vote off Lagos due to knowing he was one of those free marketers in a left wing party, but since Singh is actually the same as well, Lagos wins out due to his work against Pinochet.

Got to way, Singh was my original pick to win the whole thing, but I never expected him to face Lagos in the final. Talk about a dark horse.

No one really formed "mafias", it just so happened that on many occaisions certain groups voted for the same person, which was to be expected, it was actually like real elections, you have a core base on both sides and a few swing voters (like Al and Emsworth). The Koizumi vs. Moo-Hun round is a good example of this.

The only actual group founded was KIIC, and even that wasn't really a group rather than a basic concept (the only person who really was a member was hughento). I voted KIIC on some occaisions, but I bet most would also lump me in with the "Leftist Voting Bloc"

And if you consider there to be "mafias", the righties were actually being much worse, considering they voted off Zapatero before Schroeder, which is the equivalent of the left voting off Blair before Berlusconi.

What I meant is that there was no official groups.

But when the righties were trying to vote off Chavez and the lefties went after Berlusconi, who else should I have voted for? There was no organization of "let's take out this guy", just more along the lines of "this guy has votes and I hate him too, so I'll vote for him".
