IL Dems will probably end up winning this race despite giving their best efforts to lose it, lol.

With redistricting coming up, it's beyond pathetic that national Dems aren't stepping in to stop the Pritzker sh*t show.

Well what are they gonna do to stop him?
He's got the entire state machine and his billions behind him, how could they stop him without throwing everything against him?

They should be throwing everything they have against him.

If Rauner manages to win re-election, Dems have nobody to blame but themselves.

I do think it's kind of interesting how people elected him to fix all these issues, putting aside the problem that that is not really his primary job. America has a real problem with entrusting the head of the executive branch to fix all the state/country's problems despite that person explicitly not having the power to do that in most cases. It's like people think they are electing a monarch.

Americans are dumb. News at 11.

Most of them don't have the slightest clue how the government actually functions. And that's even among the half that actually votes. Scary stuff.

Also, Tom seems to assume that Illinois voters actually wanted Rauner to do whatever it was that he ran on. More like he was at the right place at the right time with the right letter next to his name running against the right (or wrong, depending on your perspective) opponent, and that was what gave him a win. Just like the vast majority of politicians.

Now he's in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong letter next to his name, and he's gonna go down. Such is the nature of American politics and our schizophrenic, uninformed, and rabidly tribal/partisan voters.

How moderate of Rauner to not endorse a conservative over a Nazi because the conservative has a (D) after their name.

Rauner eeked out a win against a weak, corrupt, and underfunded Democrat in a GOP year. I don't even know why Rauner is spending money.

Probably because Pritzker is even weaker than Quinn and certainly far more corrupt. Of course, it likely won't matter due to said other factors.

Don't be so cocky. Rauner might fart in an elevator between now and election day and make it safe D again. Anything Can Happen In Politics™.

don't see why people think jb will commit heinous crimes during his time as governor — he is already wealthy beyond the scope of human imagination

Yeah, he'll probably spend 15+ years in prison for crimes from BEFORE he was governor.

Yeah, both candidates are atrocious. I'd definitely be voting third-party here.

There are two third party candidates. One is a far right Trumpist and the other is a libertarian who didn't pay his child support and might be a wife beater, so have fun with that...lol.

I'd be solidly on the write-in train here. Hillary Clinton for Illinois governor in 2018! Smiley

Yeah, Sam McCann invoked Trump several times in the debate and is running where Jeanne Ives left off. And the Libertarian, Kash Jackson, is a shady figure as you mentioned (in a race full of shady figures).

I'm voting early today and trying to decide between holding my nose and voting for Pritzker (and rationalizing it as a vote for Lt Governor Juliana Stratton since she'll probably end up as Governor once Pritzker gets caught doing something) or writing-in Michelle Obama

Who did you end up voting for?

Hillary Clinton has been in the state campaigning for Pritzker, for some reason. He certainly doesn't need the help and there are other Democratic gubernatorial candidates in blue states that could use her help more (like Ben Jealous and Jay Gonzalez): http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-hillary-clinton-campaigning-for-pritzker-20180930-story.html

How cute. Thinking Hillary cares more about the party than herself.

Because Hillary gets so much for herself by campaigning for J.B. Pritzker? Roll Eyes

I don't even understand why Pritzker is going through all of this to run a state as messed up as IL, I don't get Rauner's reason either. What about IL fascinates these rich guys so much.

He's doing it out of the goodness of his own heart in order to help the good people of Illinois clean up the mess that Rauner has created over the past 4 years.

Ahahaha imagine actually believing this

I doubt he actually does, lol.
