This is how Trump wins a second term, folks. Republican voters will never vote third party. Democrats will split their votes
Tancredo?

Tancredo was the de facto Republican in that race. The actual Republican probably only got votes from low info straight ticket voting olds who didn't even realize that fact.

PNM is absolutely right. Any remotely serious third party contender helps Trump by splitting the anti-Trump vote. Doesn't matter if they're "from the right" or not.

Maine Democrats have a habit of nominating the blandest most centrist candidates who run lifeless campaigns and then just blame third parties as a cover for why they can't get their crap together.

Yea and they went the other route with Emily Cain who lost twice. A bold progressive is just not going to fly in ME-02.

Which is why John McCain won it in a landslide.

Golden now at 49.4 according to BDN. Less than 100 precincts left.

Is Maine the slowest counting state in the country that isn't VBM? Good lord.

What's taking so long to count the primary votes?

What's the rush? Isn't accuracy more important than speed?

Most first world countries don't need to choose between the two.

Ugh, I really hope Poliquin goes down in flames. Mocking Flawless Beautiful Jared's badass tattoos is one of the most morally reprehensible things I've seen a Republican candidate do so far.

I wouldn't mind seeing Golden star in a male enhancement commercial. Hopefully that can be his new career if he loses.

I presume Golden must have been trailing by more than the 4 points he's currently trailing by when the "discussion" above took place? Or does hofoid really think that an incumbent being up 4 points in September when their party controls the White House makes them safe?

So...what's the status here? How many votes are left to count, and does Golden have a good chance of pulling ahead after the RCV? I'd really like to win this one.

Color me surprised. Why?

Why not? It's another seat. Also, we need more Flawless Beautiful men like Jared Golden in Congress. As opposed to Bruce Poliquin who, in the words of Mizzouian, "looks like a dingus."

I don't hate ALL #populists Purple heart Tongue

Ranked Choice is a fouking abomination. It needs to go

Good to hear you think a FPTP popular vote system is the way to go. We'll trade you Rep. Poliquin for President Clinton.

Yeah, I don’t get why Republicans are getting so worked up over this result, it was always obvious that RCV would help Golden here. Sure, he’s a strong candidate, but beating a flawed incumbent by 1% in a massive Democratic wave doesn’t mean that he won’t be very vulnerable in a more favorable year for Republicans.

I got no doubt we take him out in 2020. I’m just not sure who we run here. I doubt LePage wants to be a congressman

2020 is not going to be a "more favorable year for Republicans".

It will be another medium Democratic wave election, just like 2018 was.

And you know this how?

I like how he throws shade by saying "Congressman-elect Jared Golden's statement", lol.

How desperate is this guy?

Also, you'd think that the last thing any Republican would want is to have to compete in a special election for the House, given how badly that has been going for them, even in districts far more conservative than ME-02.

Even if his chance in the special was 10% or whatever, that's a lot better than the 0% chance he currently has.
