Does Allison's mother get a say in any of this?

If Bushie and his parents can hold a "family meeting" to discuss their diets, then surely Alison and her parents can have such a meeting about her marital status?

Bushie, have you ever heard of an Oklahoma father who refused a suitor's request to propose to his daughter?

If Papa Allison said no, would Bushie have to break up with her?

This question is a moot point.  He gave me his blessing.

Congrats Phil.

Just a side note: Without me and a few of the other Update regulars, Bushie and Allison would not be a couple right now.

Just thought that was worth noting.

Which is why you should be his best man.

Will Update continue after Bushie is married?

This of course is all assuming the wedding will actually happen this time...

Obviously, things could blow up as they have before.  However, given how she took him back after the breakup, and given how quickly she seemed to talk up marriage nearly as soon as he did, it sounds like she's pretty eager to get married.  (And I guess she's "old" by Oklahoma standards.)  So it's certainly possible that it could really happen this time.

Not that that means that everything will be great once they're married, or that Bushie won't still be Bushie once he's married.

Bushie should post that picture in Update, then send Allison a link to Update.  He proposes and reveals to her the existence of Update at the same time.  If she still loves him after seeing Update, then she's The One.

You're delaying the engagement, but keeping the wedding date the same?  Not sure what difference that makes then.  You're already effectively engaged.  You're saying that once you put the ring on her finger, that'll take focus away from your job?  Why don't you just propose, but not get into the weeds of the wedding planning yet?

Out of curiosity Bushie, have your parents ever met her parents?

Delay the proposal? I don't get it.

Proposal is the least commitment part of the commitment.

The only benefit I see to delaying the proposal and keeping the wedding date the same is if he thinks there's a reasonable chance of this proposal falling apart like the previous ones have.  In that case, it's easier to get the ring back if he never gives it up in the first place.

I think he has the old rings but didn't want to use them.

Who will have the most rings when he retires from the game, Tom Brady or Bushie?

You guys are funny.  He just wants me to establish myself in a job before I propose.

Did you say that you wanted to establish yourself in a job before proposing and he agreed with you?  Or was he the one to bring that up?

I guess apple pie is out because it's got fruit, which makes it too healthy?

How come Bushie eats exclusively at chain restaurants? I feel like he's trying to name drop them all the time. Applebee's. Barnhill's. On the Border. Cracker Barrel. Denny's. IHOP. Don't they have non chains in Oklahoma?

Update is brought to you by the aforementioned chain restaurants.  That's why Bushie never actually works.  He's just paid to write Update by those sponsors, and that gives him just enough $ to survive.

When Bushie temporarily locks Update, it's because of a pay dispute with his sponsors.  He likes to go on strike from time to time, to keep them on their toes.

Maybe Bushie has made a deal. The name dropping may be Update's equivalent to commercial breaks.

Update doesn't make the chains look good though. Maybe lots of indy places got together and sponsored the Update to make the chains look bad.

How does it not make them look good?  Bushie is the perfect representative of their target demographic.  He loves the chains so much that he keeps going back to them, and talks about that regularly here.

The chains won't care that Update also includes some weirdos who talk about eating more healthy food.  I guess those people are like the evil foil for our hero, Bushie.  They're the losers who will take "Brand X" over the product being advertised.

J-Mann makes a great point and Bushie once again ignores it.

I assume the reason he keeps going back to call centers is because he isn't physically able to handle a retail job. Otherwise, I don't get it. It's always been an Update mystery to me considering he has failed at them each and every time. If a call center had actually been a career option, Bushie wouldn't have gone back for CADD.

I can't really stand up for that long.  I would if I absolutely had to, but most retail jobs require being on your feet for nearly the entire shift except lunch.  With my weight, it puts a lot of pressure on my knees, ankles, and feet that it makes my feet start hurting in a fairly short amount of time.  I know the weight is a correctable issue, but for right now, I have a very hard time standing up for 6-8 hours a day.

Then why did you sound like you were open to retail jobs in these previous posts, simply saying that you can't find many of them?  You said that you were looking for them, just as you were other jobs.  What changed?

I can't find too many retail jobs.  I keep looking for them, just as I am for other jobs, just can't find too many.

Those are included, but I just put in for a computer job - not a CAD(D) job, but an E-Commerce/Computer Science job that I went to college for.  Most of the time, it is customer service, clerical, technical support, and CAD(D).  I do look at the retail job side of craigslist, too.

Are call centers the only low skilled job in the world that involves sitting down?  Surely there must be others.

And of course he publicly posts his employer on Facebook, even after everything Mondale's done... good job, Jeff... you've learned nothing.

I just switched it to just viewable by Friends.  Can anyone who is not my friend on FB tell me whether they can see it?

I can't see it.

In any case, you can always see what your FB page looks like to others using these instructions:

The scale this morning showed 290.8.  That's much higher than I want to be, so if I can just train my mind to cut out fast food, I'll be alright.  I'm doing pretty good about switching to diet soda and water, I just need to cut out Mickey D's and Braum's, etc.

A couple of weeks ago, you said this:

I do plan to go to Walmart tomorrow night and get some healthier food.

Did you in fact do that?  What kinds of things have you been getting at the grocery story?  How many nights a week do you eat out?

Looking back through Bushie's 2009 posts, I found some more lost Update threads that aren't on the canonical reading list:

Bittersweet in retrospect:

Optimist Mikado: Some people know at first sight.  While some people can take months or years to decide if marriage is the right thing, others instantly know that they are the one for each other.  While many spur-of-the-moment marriages fail, BushOK is an incredibly decent, hardworking man who will do everything in his power to keep it on track.

Cynical Mikado:  I'm too flabbergasted to comment right now.  Please leave a message at the tone.

Do we have a new record for shortest Update break ever?

Guys, I'm done with Update for a while.  I'm getting frustrated with several things, so instead of blowing up, I'm going to lay low on the Update for a while.  I will continue to talk on the rest of the forum, just no Update for a while.  I'm not going so far as to say I'll never post here again, but for a while, I'm taking an Update break.
