everyone here seems to dismiss the possibility of Romney being picked for VP.  but all of the buzz and the gamblers seem to tell a different story.  does the chance exist that we are all morons?

I don't think we're morons, but there's an outside chance that McCain and his advisors are (at least with respect to the task of picking a running mate).  That's why I can't dismiss the chance that he'll pick Romney completely, even though I think it's rather unlikely.

The CW is sometimes very stupid.  Back in December, Giuliani was still the favorite to win the GOP presidential nomination on Intrade, even while he was tanking in all the early primary states.

It very well could be Romney.  I put his chances barely above average.

What the heck is the definition of "average" chances?
