81 missing. This is the fourth major disaster in China this year - and like the Shangahi New Year's stampede, the Tianjin explosions, the ferry disaster on the Yangtze and most such disasters - this was a horrendous event caused by a toxic mixture catastrophic human error, slapdash regulation and endemic corruption. In a backdrop of possible economic meltdown, environmental disaster, increased state repression and a worrying rise in nationalistic aggression; I'm really worried about China, tbh.
The details of this are sad, and very reminiscent of one of the worst tragedies in modern Welsh history, the Aberfan coalslide.
