I don't think any African-Americans care that Terry was a hardcore Clinton fan in the primaries that much, she's no longer super unpopular.  And Terry did "Campaign Hard for Obama".

here's a collection of him being really really hackish during the campaign, nothing useful in there for attack ads though:

Still waiting for someone to show me some anti-Obama statement Terry has made that can be used against him.  All he's done, that I've seen on Youtube looking around, is make delusional and constant hackish Hillary claims that she was still going to win.

Terry's only raised $4.2 million in the first quarter, so he's not doing too well

What have Deeds and Moran raised?

Let's just say that $1 million for Senatorial candidates is phenomenal for a first-quarter number.

Also, if Deeds or Moran raised one fourth of that, we'd probably have heard of it already this week, but I won't say that for sure.

Webb won despite being outspent 4-1 in his own primary,

Yeah, but a legitimate excuse doesn't change the facts

One of the facts, by the way, is that Moran will be unemployed or governor next December

idle question, how many of VA's Democratic governors (Wilder, Kaine, and Warner) have been solidly liberal on the issues?

Also, Hillary isn't exactly unpopular in Southwest Virginia, eh?

Terry splitting the liberal vote?HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh?

Well, more specifically, Terry should do well with partisans, many of whom are liberal

indeed, partisanship and wads of cash that overwhelm your opponent in primary off-years

well it's not a bad combination of events.

as to why they're support Terry?  You'll have to ask them that.  Most of the electorate aren't people who realized what a ridiculous persona Terry created for himself during the '08 primaries

As I said earlier in this thread, it's not like he ever said anything very negative about Obama, his biggest hack contribution was constantly and blatantly denying that Clinton wasn't winning...he's an insanely positive person

Deeds really needs to step it up and make some headlines by actually promoting himself as a moderate.  He was endorsed by the NRA OVER McDonnell in their AG race a few years ago.  He can't make the argument that he's the most electable candidate if people don't know anything about him and the poll numbers look like this.

I like the comment that says "Looks like Terry couldn't find any actual yards to put signs in... "

Terry McAuliffe is inherently a controversial political figure, despite actually being one of the most insanely positive people you'll ever meet in your entire life.  Democratic activists that I've talked to who are not part of the Clinton faction, tend to passionately hate him. He introduced new dynamics into the race that, to my knowledge, have never been replicated races nationwide before.   I have no idea what the general election implications are of him winning or losing a competitive primary are.  Hell, I don't even now what kind of governor he'd be.

Is there a historical equivalent at all?

If Deeds can keep up his fundraising arm and the momentum, this might be a good upset.

Another notable fact is that Deeds is polling just as well as Terry against McDonnell.

Moran has gone hard-negative against Terry in his ads...good news for Deeds on that front as well.

Terry is still the frontrunner IMO.  When's the primary again?

I've suggested it before, but genuine liberals don't win Virginia governor's races, at least they have't the last twenty+ years.

Moran is a comically incompetent campaigner anyway.  I do appreciate him going hard-negative on Terry though, even if Joe Trippi just doesn't get it.
