I think there were multiple highly advanced civilizations predating Sumeria, and - even if it's not an active or even deliberate cover up - academia resists any and all evidence supporting this because they feel it would undermine their life's work.

My unpopular opinion is that coarseness in public discourse is the norm in American politics, with the mid 20th century being the exception. Coarseness comes in part from a fragmented news media which allows people to stay within an information bubble. This was the condition both before radio and since the rise of cable and then the web.

Huh, that is really interesting!  As always, if muon supports, I support!

Is the unpopular part of this the opinion that "coarseness" once was as common as it is today, or the opinion that the politics of the mid-twentieth century were unusually civil?

I interpreted it to mean that the unpopular opinion is that we shouldn't necessarily be alarmed by the "coarseness" of contemporary politics and should expect it?  I don't know.

Roundabouts are horrible ... when the drivers in them don't know how they work and how convenient they should be.

Hard drugs should be legal.
Not sure how unpopular that opinion is, but most of my political opinions aren't super unpopular.

I think there would be some logistical problems with government-sanctioned hard drug use, but they should at least be decriminalized.  No dumbass kid caught with some drugs should spend years in prison, ever.

I believe that black magic*, ghosts, and hauntings are real based on real-life experiences I've had and have had all my life.  I don't talk about them openly because anyone who does is instantly labeled 'crazy.'

*No, I don't practice it myself.

While I don't believe in those things, you couldn't pay me enough to go sit in a supposedly "haunted" hotel room or something at night, LOL ... absolutely nothing to gain.  If I'm right and they're fake, big deal; if I'm wrong, I'm in for a terrible night.  So, I guess while I don't "believe in them," I'm not very confident in my disbelief. Tongue  Is this how atheists feel??  LOL.

I assumed you would know something about that.

Please don't defame me or my religious beliefs for no reason when I am being friendly with another poster and not talking to you at all.

Yeah I'm extremely interested in TexArkana's hard drive right now.
I have never, and would never, watch anything sexual involving anyone under the age of 18. I'm not attracted to children in any way either, as I like, shall we say, well developed women 😏

...And Palpatine loved the Republic and Democracy.

Trust me, if you look through my hard drive all you'll find is hours and hours worth of VERY well-developed women banging.

So men today brag about the amount of porn they watch?

I was more scared that he might not be referring to porn...

I think some Democrats sound borderline racist when they constantly separate out *White liberals* from just *Democrats*, as if OF COURSE minorities are Democrats, but these White people vote Democrat because they're especially enlightened.

You should be pulled over and ticketed for going more than 10 mph below the speed limit.  Not sure how "unpopular" that'd be, but it has zero chance of ever happening.

The death penalty is a perfectly acceptable punishment for neo-Nazis

Freedom of Speech completely unabridged is overrated, we'd be better off with European style laws

Scotland would've been better off Independent in 2014.

The wage gap is a myth.

Airports are a fascinating places to be.

Citizen Kane is mediocre.

How does this compare to your "views on the death penalty" in general?

People who hate an entire state and aren't just joking about it (e.g., the Cardinals beat the Cubs in the Playoffs and Illinois later loses to Mizzou in the Braggin' Rights Game and I say how much I hate the state of Missouri) are generally stupid.

It is basic decency/politeness to behave in a somewhat urgent manner in public.  You might not be running late to work or to pick up your kid or to get your mom at the car dealership, but somebody else might be.  Acting totally leisurely when doing non-entertainment activities like driving a car or checking out at the grocery store is such a dick move.  Someone who, for example, takes 2-3 seconds to accelerate when the light turns green or is in no rush whatsoever to wrap up their transaction at the checkout stand is infuriatingly oblivious at best and downright self-centered/rude at worst.

In response to the other post...

Driving slowly is more dangerous than driving quickly.

Amen.  Especially in the, ya know, PASSING lane.

^ LOL, I am probably due for one.  Seriously, though, I go like 10 over.  Whole lot of daylight between going 5 under in the passing lane and going like 95, which is actually pretty dangerous.

Waving a Confederate flag is not only racist, but treasonous and anti-American.

I'm not sure it's "treasonous" to simply waive a flag in a nation with free speech and freedom of assembly, but yes: there is simply no redeeming quality of the Confederate flag.

Boone, DeKalb, and Kendall Counties should be grouped into the Collar Counties, even though they lack a border connection with Cook County.

This is indeed a very strange opinion.  DeKalb and Boone aren't even part of the Chicago metropolitan area, LOL.  If you're including Kendall, why not include McHenry and Kane...?

DeKalb County is classified as part of the Chicago metropolitan area by the U.S. Census. Including Boone County wouldn't make any sense though since it's part of the Rockford metropolitan area.

Damn, you're right!  LOL, for some reason I thought it was only part of the CSA.  Either way, anyone who has been to DeKalb County would group it culturally with what lies to its north, west and south - not its east.

I feel like renaming this thread. What do y'all think I should rename it as?

Bad/Unpopular Opinions

True, the more prevalent adjective should always come first!

Speed limits on rural freeways should be abolished and a minimum of 45mph should be enforced.

Chicago deep dish is not real pizza. That being said it's still better than New York Pizza.

Okay, I guess that's neither here nor there then ... it's in' delicious!
