One thing I've always wondered was whether LBJ pushed more to Kennedy than just Texas. He was certainly popular, but was he popular enough to win more than just his home state? It definitely had the effect of consolidating the Dixiecrat wing behind Kennedy in 1960 methinks.

I'd also probably add John Bricker carrying Ohio for Dewey in 1944.

What about Pence?  Not for one state in particular, but for suburban (often evangelical) conservatives in 2016?  That could have easily "saved" Florida, Wisconsin, and maybe Pennsylvania for Trump.
Good point. It'd be hard to pick one state that he picked up for Trump but he definitely had the effect of consolidating the GOP base around Trump.
