Is posting EnglishPete here considered cheating?

Nope! Maybe one day, generations from now, people can both amuse themselves with and learn from his ultra-hackish behavior. It is critical it be preserved Tongue

One can believe something should be a right, and they can view it as a right, but until it is codified into law and/or the constitution, then it won't be treated as such. Given where society finds itself technologically and resource-wise, I do believe healthcare should be a right, but I also understand clearly that a lot of elections need to be won and laws need to be passed before healthcare is actually treated as a right.

There’s still a difference between single-payer and universal, as to which, for your statement only the latter is implied.

Sure, and I have long since lost faith in the current system. It is profiteering gone mad, and such a situation involving life and death sickens me.

Also, since when did “right to” mean “the government gives it to you”? I support revenue-neutral, universal healthcare because it’s the right thing to do, not because it’s a right.

Personally, I think a more government-oriented solution can provide better for the country. It's fine if you don't personally think it should be a right, I mean, it's not like there aren't oodles of people out there who don't believe any number of existing rights shouldn't be actual rights. But in the end, regardless of what others think, I'll still volunteer, donate and otherwise work towards upending the current system.

I don't know why you're talking to me about various healthcare systems though, I was only speaking generically about the concept of rights and healthcare as a right.

This is something Democrats have to watch out for, because it could prove to be astronomically beneficial to Republicans electoral chances. Imagine a nightmare scenario where an undocumented Muslim Immigrant blows himself up and kills a couple hundred people a month before the midterms, and Trump responds by calling for the immediate deportation of all undocumented immigrants along with putting all Muslims in internment camps, what would Democrats do? You know most racist White Americans (around 60% of them) would immediately back those proposals, and if Democrats rolled over their base of Nonwhites and Liberal Millennials would sit home, while if Democrats stood their ground they would be accused of being the "Party of Terrorist's". Either way this would result in Democrats losing 10 Senate seats (WV, ND, MT, IN, MO, OH, FL, WI, PA, and MI) and 20 House seats (AZ-01, CA-07, FL-07, FL-13, IA-02, IL-17, MN-01, MN-07, MN-08, NH-01, NH-02, NV-03, NV-04, NJ-05, NY-18, NY-03, PA-17, OR-04, OR-05, and WI-03), and once the next 116th congress came into session they probably would declare Martial law, write a new constitution, and create a dictatorship (these events would probably lead to a civil war and the collapse of the United States).

I love how before he concluded his mouth-foaming tangent about how a Muslim immigrant blowing himself up will lead to the total collapse of American society, he laid out a specific list of Senate and House seats that would flip (before the collapse, of course).

King Lear is a real up and coming star and has great potential to be added to Atlas's trolling hall of fame. He puts in a decent amount of effort, after all.

^ I was headed to the funny posts gallery, but this works too.

One rule to live by is when a person starts ranting about their opponents busing voters in, you know they are full of sh**t and probably just can't stand being wrong / losing.

I don't understand whether Fuzzy is trying to ignore the role the national environment/president plays in midterm/odd-year elections, or if this is just somehow neurons misfiring. The effect a president and by extension, their approval rating, plays on elections under their watch has been obvious for years now, and most if not all analysts accept it.

For instance, Virginia has been trending towards Democrats for years now, but yet the Democratic Party's share of legislative seats didn't really catch up until an unpopular Republican president came along. Interesting! I mean, yes, Democrats fielded lots more candidates this time, but they ran candidates in 2015 in vulnerable districts and still lost, only to win comfortably 2 years later under Trump.

Further, Alabama had Roy Moore, yes, but to say Trump had no effect there at all is preposterous. Jones won by a very slim margin, and had this been under Obama, with a demoralized Democratic base that had an enthusiasm problem, it's very easy to see them not showing up in Alabama either. In fact, it's practically guaranteed if you ask me. Trump made that race possible, and Roy Moore/Jones put it over the line.

I don't get why Fuzzy is ignoring years' worth of understanding of American elections. Politics is not that localized. It just isn't. Everything has become nationalized. If it wasn't, we'd actually have split ticket voting still and everything wouldn't be so polarized. You would probably have to go back 100 years or more to find a time where people voted party line as much as they do nowadays. That does not sound like an environment that 'votes local' like Fuzzy suggests.

3. Mitt Romney has done more in his personal life to help the poor and downtrodden than most people could ever hope to do. The 47% comment was him essentially saying that he understands that Democrats have an inherent advantage with poorer voters, as they offer more programs and benefits. That does not mean he wouldn't have pursued policies that would help poor Americans as president. Anyway, I'll stop relitigating the 2012 election now. :*

I'm kind of curious what the effect of his business decisions would be vs his philanthropy and such. I see the argument used a lot when talking about wealthy people (even from themselves) - that they've done more to help the poor than x y or z. What isn't usually mentioned is what their effect has been in the other direction. There are plenty of CEOs whose business decisions could have put a lot of people out of work, or for the pharma industry, put burdensome debt on millions of people solely for more profits. I'm sure there are/have been some wealthy corporate CEOs whose philanthropy pails in comparison to the hurt they have caused.

I'm not entirely sure what Bain Capital did. Didn't they break up / sell off companies?

This is proof that the only way to truly end mass shootings is a full scale 2nd amendment repeal + mass gun confiscation.

Thinking about that statement more, if America ever got to the point where it was able to pass + ratify a full 2nd amendment repeal, then such a post might actually find itself in the good posts gallery instead. An amendment really needs widespread support to get ratified. Either that or a whole lot of pols willing to buck the country's electorate so brazenly on a hot button issue, surely leading to a lot of lost elections afterwards.

Anyway, bad post. I'm all for gun control but not that. 2nd repeal + mass confiscation sounds ridiculous.

Better to compare various aspects of Trump to authoritarian leaders in general. Hitler is way too overused in hyperbolic statements and many people, particularly those on the other side of the debate, will write off anything that uses him, right there on the spot.

I voted for Trump in 2016 and I will probably vote for him in 2020.

I've always been a social democrat and I still am. I realize social democratic programs are impossible to maintain with permissive immigration policies.

I wonder what happened to Mortimer to make him so obsessed with immigration policy. I really feel like there is an origin story here, kind of like Tender's bike being stolen by a refugee (or whatever) when he was a kid.

I've had 10 posts reported and 1 post moderated when I suggested that another poster needed to find a relationship.  (Someone else suggested that poster "get laid" and it's still standing.

I hope folks read this and think about why Hillary lost.

To be fair, no one ever reported it, and that board was moving fast enough at that point in the election that it's not reasonable to expect a moderator to just stroll by and delete it on their own. If I was moderating that board at that time and I saw it or saw a report on it, I'd have deleted it (I deleted it now for that reason)
