Ugh. This is such a feel-good gesture that really accomplishes nothing. The NRA and Congress can all pat each other on the back for having Done Something after the Las Vegas shooting, but it accomplishes nothing.
The NRA and its supporters like to talk about how banning guns will accomplish nothing, bad people will still get them, etc etc. I think that's a load of horse hockey, because if they can't be sold in the US, the production would go down significantly.
BUT in the case of bump stocks, they're going to be right. These things look like something that could easily be 3D printed (unlike guns) and are also small and fairly "plain," so shipping or carrying them around (unlike guns) will be fairly easy. People who want them are still going to have them, and now with all this attention put on them, future mass-murderers will try to find them.
This whole bump stock ban is ridiculous. It's a feel-good measure that won't help with anything whatsoever. I think they should be banned, but if that's all that comes of this, it's just ridiculous. And the NRA knows that this is perfect for them. They can pretend that they've actually backed "gun control" and look compassionate while still allowing gun makers to pump out weapons and make their millions of dollars.
