Hopefully he will be duly tried for what he is charged of, and the justice will determine whether he is guilty or not. Like any other citizen.

Uh, he's not like any other citizen.........so nothing will be terribly familiar.  Any other citizen might not even be charged....if you remember charges were pending, withdrawn, now miraculously pending again after a wikileaks dump......sound like every other citizen to you?

Actually, no, not really. Given the allegations and the fact that he's not from here, there was never any chance of him getting bail, irrespective of everything else.

I'm happy to take your word on that, Al.  Thanks.

Actually I suppose an absolute disappearance is the most likely event.

Ala, GITMO?

They have their own baseball field?

How do you know that's not for the guards?

It's surrounded by cell blocks.

JJ, do you think the personnel there sleep outside.....I'd call them bunkhouses

From the UK Independent:

Informal discussions have already taken place between US and Swedish officials over the possibility of the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange being delivered into American custody, according to diplomatic sources.

Yeah, those charges in Sweden have nothing to do with the leaks......  Roll Eyes

Is he officially charged with that ?

Not yet but here is the article I was referencing.

"The US Justice Department is considering charging Mr Assange with espionage offences over his website’s unprecedented release of classified US diplomatic files. Several right-wing American politicians are pressing for his prosecution and even execution, with Sarah Palin, the former vice-presidential candidate, saying he should be pursued the same as al-Qa’ida and Taliban leaders."

You know, wouldn't that just be the greatest piece of trolling ever? I mean if he actually did that? Who would believe claims of suicide? lol

Yep, Al, that would be his final middle finger to the world.  Wink

I suppose you fellows think Martin Luther King was more effective because he was assassinated.

All we said was, or all I said was........if he's found hung, he might not have done it himself.......the rest was a bit of humor.

The U.S. is way overreacting to this anyway. Just restrict the access to confidential information, so that a simple Army corporal can't leak 250,000 documents anymore.

All this talk about charging Assange with espionage/conspiracy and hunting WikiLeaks like terrorists is excessive hyperbole. Tongue

Do you (I mean others too) believe this was all the work of a lowly Army officer?  I think it's foolish to believe he doesn't a mole much higher up the food chain.

Eh. He doesn't really strike me as a great man, even if some of the stuff he did was good.

Gustaf, weren't you calling him a rapist not long ago, or was it someone else?  If it was you it's clear you think he's scum, no?

Indeed the fact that the crimes he's accused of in Sweden might not actually constitute crimes in the UK at all

Why do people keep saying that when it is obviously not true?

Actually I'll make a retraction in so far as the charge relating to having sex with a sleeping woman would quite probably constitute rape per British law.

The rest I'm not so sure would constitute crimes in Britain in the absence of further detail (the most likely candidate is the charge relating to violation of sexual integrity might have a correlative law in Britain - but I don't know enough about the specifics of Swedish or British law to say with any certainty).

The one about the not using the condom. If consent was conditional on the use of a condom and he didn't use one, then consent is not present. That's rape.

Especially if the woman is sleeping. Tongue

Wait, you have a sense of humor?  Wink
