This bill is a xenophobic end run, plain and simple. I will vote NAY on this bill.
I would point out that in large measure the attempts by established figures to avoid having debates about say economic based or merit based immigration approaches and so forth and the labeling of all dissent from the uniformly embraced neoliberal position of high immigration is always good immigration, is in large measure what has fed the rise in serious xenophobia and racism where such did not have to be the case.
The greatest mistake the establishment has ever made, has been to put all of its eggs in a single basket on immigration and likewise on trade. What happens is that people will look elsewhere for answers and the end result is you get a bag of cheetos instead of an egg.
You can be against high levels of immigration and think birthright citizenship is unnecessary and in this case, smells xenophobia. I hold all of those views, actually.
