When you say "seven days later" does that mean if someone resigned on a wednesday, we'd have a Wed-to-Fri election time? Shouldn't it be on a weekend to make sure voters are aware of the election outside of school/work time?

Also, if we're legislating elections, I would be open to expanding the scope of this legislation to change the dates for future Southern elections. If we look at the Introduction to Atlasia thread, we can see that Southern elections are always a week off from federal/Lincoln/Frémont elections. If we moved the election schedule up one week, then our elections would coincide with the rest of the nation's elections, and voter turnout would increase.

My original thinking behind the seven days was to give candidates exactly one week to declare and be placed on the ballot. The 40-day number was to make sure that, by the time the election ends, the new delegate would be serving for more than 30 days before the next election. While holding the election on a weekend is a good idea, we would have to move the resignation day number back from 40 to have at least a week before the next weekend.

I'm still contemplating it. Holding an election less than 21 days before the new session begins seems like it wouldn't allow for an appointed delegate to do much before the session.

I think for now, I would like to keep the bill as it is, but thanks to all for your inputs.
