So apparently the (Social Democratic) President of Croatia is threatening to veto Finland's entry to NATO.

I remember Atlas cheering this dweeb's election victory.
And Croatia Prime Minister is pro admitting them and are openly contradicting each other

I feel like your point that Finland and Sweden needing to join in secret would have more weight to it if it wasn’t for the fact that it would be suicide for Russia to open a second front on Finland and Sweden. They don’t have the manpower or resources to open a second front against two more countries let alone ones that have superior military equipment to Russia. I mean Sweden has a western armed air force that could ripe Russia’s apart. The only thing Russia can do is shake their fists at them joining NATO because quite frankly at this point they could probably beat Russia on their own without actually joining NATO. It’s just that even though they probably would win it still would be destructive and bloody so it would better to join as a deterrent

The German Bundestag was the third parliament of a NATO member country (after Estonia and Canada) to approve Finland's and Sweden's request for NATO membership.
All Bundestag factions voted Yes on the membership application - but one. Take a guess at which party isn't fond of Finland and Sweden... Roll Eyes

Linke is the best party.
If you told me that Santander was a big fan of a particular German political party the Linke wouldn’t of been my first guess

The best outcome is probably Erdogan going down in the election and his replacement okaying Sweden and Finland and then kick out Hungary as a trade

And have a Russian ally right in the heart of Europe?

Surely can’t go wrong there!
They are already. Might as well rob them of there veto ability inside NATO

Not every right of center government is pro-Putin. But kicking Orban out of NATO will only push them more in that direction.
Right but my assertion that Orban is pro-Putin is based off his actual actions not because of some political scale alignment

Finally Finland is joining NATO. That is another step towards Kyiv’s victory by adding more pressure on Russians

The moreover that Finland has the 11th most powerful naval forces and Finland’s borders’ proximity with Saint Petersburg must make Moscow panicking
^This^ is such a geopolitical blow to Russia interest in the Baltics and it’s all of Putin’s making

So we have to wait until mid-January until the Turkish Grand National Assembly reconvenes, and Turkey finally approves Sweden's bid to join NATO:

Turkish Parliament unlikely to vote on Sweden's NATO bid for weeks

Quote
Turkey's parliament is unlikely to hold a full vote on Sweden's bid to join NATO before mid-January, parliamentary sources told AFP Thursday.

Sweden's accession to the US-led Western alliance was approved by the foreign affairs committee on Tuesday, bringing an end in sight to a 19-month standoff that drew the wrath of Turkey's Western partners.

It must now be voted by the full 600-seat parliament, where President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling alliance holds the majority. The president would then need to sign it into law.

Although Erdogan's party could call for a special session to discuss the measure, it appears likely it will wait until after parliament's scheduled return on January 15.

And then we have to worry about Hungary.  Does anyone know when the Hungarian National Assembly convenes next year?

Not a shock as Turkey is plainly going for a quid pro quo of linking Sweden joining NATO with them getting F16s which can’t be done until congress comes back. The issue of Hungary shouldn’t be a big deal as they won’t go in alone on this especially with the fallout they’re getting in the EU

Hopefully Moldova and Ukraine are next.

I doubt that Putin's pals (Erdogan and Orban) will ever allow that.

I think this is a fairer characterization of Orban than of Erdogan. The Turkish position is traditionally anti-Russian and Turkey's current interests generally benefit from Russia being frozen out of Europe. Erdogan is a bad-faith wrecker within NATO, but it's for other reasons.
Yeah Erodgan has openly needled Putin too many times to call him a friend
