If Humphrey managed to end the Vietnam War & if the economy was still strong, then he'd still be favored to win re-election in 1972.
Later on, though, the GOP would have a better shot in 1976. There would've been 4 terms w/ a Democrat in the White House & the perceived need for change would be more pronounced, w/ whomever the GOP nominates then (Rockefeller? Reagan? Connally? etc. etc.) likely being able to win against VP Muskie as the Democratic nominee.
