Every so often he says something extremely racist and disappoints me.

I really don't want to rehash this debate. Long story short, I think there are innate personality differences between men and women. Many posters think that's sexist/misogynist. I disagree, and think those labels are inaccurate. I'm sticking to my story and so are they.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot there.
This is true. 14 years before I was born. Today the site is the National Civil Rights Museum, which is great. They're renovating right now, so I am interested to see how it will look with they are done.

A crappy joke belittling a law program he only got into because of the same racial quotas that he's so strongly against.

right, no black person can get into Yale without a quota.

You ever stop and think that maybe one of the reasons he's so against them is because he doesn't appreciate being denigrated as some sort of charity case?

I didn't even have to go to page 2 of your posting history. I left out your defense because the claim you made wasn't actually true. I've seen worse than this but I gain nothing from spending my time searching for them.

You're not very bright if you think that lends truth to your original claim. Did someone from Yale tell you personally that they only let in Thomas because he was black?
I suppose you also think Bush Sr chose him of all people to replace Thurgood Marshall because he was the most qualified applicant? Oh, and you're very bright too Roll Eyes

Sadly, we don't get along very well. Sad
It's not personal Torie. I don't think you're a rightist because of a spiteful nature, as is the case for so many in your party. And you carry yourself with more dignity (and a far better vocabulary) than nearly all Atlas members.  I understand that you just want some job security as an owner, not so unlike the New York City school bus drivers in another thread.

I''ve never been. I went to Nashville once, and while I liked the city a lot, I learned that I wasn't much of a Tennesseean. Tongue
Please don't compare us to the America's hillbilly capital. Thanks Smiley

Nashville is an interesting place. The Hermitage Hotel is a lovely place to stay!
Shall I compare Charleston with Spartanburg? Tongue

From the perspective of other white men I'm sure he's a great guy and since that's almost universally the case here FFs will have the day.The lack of empathy for people who aren't white men is a bit disconcerting though.

I am not a big fan of misogyny and racism though, even if it is all beneficial to me.
Please let me reassure you that your race and sex have done nothing to improve my opinion of you.

As for 2016, my strong inclination is to support Hillary Clinton. Her views are similar to mine, she's been around long enough to know how the game is played, she has no reservations about playing said games, and the Moderate Heroes appear to have forgotten that she was once the scary liberal du jour, much as Obama is now. She'd be a far better president than her husband.

What?! Bill was a great president. She'd have to be one hell of a president to be "far better" than her husband.
He removed the absurd cap on the Medicare tax. I'll give him that. Nonetheless, he failed to get healthcare reform passed. He instituted Don't Ask Don't Tell. He replaced welfare for poor families with welfare for all but the richest families. He signed DOMA. After a run of many good years on Wall Street, he deregulated banking which has been an ongoing disaster. He slashed taxes on investment income but never followed through on proposals to cute lower income tax rates. His at work philandering was very slimy, though not half as slimy as Republican attempts to politicize it. Bill's a very personable guy but Presidency was mediocre. Compared to W, obviously, he was a success story.

Being President is not a popularity contest. I'd much rather have a President who shares my political views and can effectively pass them as policy than a moderate hero seat warmer with a fun personality.

Do you really think you'd have a better opinion of Gustaf if he were an Asian lesbian?
Wouldn't matter to me. I do think he would have more perspective on what sexism/racism actuually means if he were. I certainly have nothing against Asians or lesbians. If his/her views were the same and expressed in the same way, I'd find said Asian lesbian just as absurd and out of touch with reality. However, it's an unlikely scenario. It has been my experience that lesbians are well aware of the differences between men and women. Some members of the Atlas Forum need to get out more. But as I said earlier, we've all made our opinions about the sexes very clear. The personal attacks against my character don't hurt my feelings, but I don't see a need to beat this particular dead horse. Nobody's changing his mind.

While I certainly don't claim to fully understand what it's like to be a woman or an ethnic minority I at least understand that it's a problem

Being a woman/minority is a problemHuh That's very rude! You trolling us?

You know full well what he meant, and you're deliberately misinterpreting this quote.
I have no idea what he means. There are aspects of being a woman that I'm sure are challenging just as there are aspects of being a man that pose difficulty. To be frank, I'm not enamored with the idea of getting shipped off to war. That doesn't make being a man a problem. Nor is being a women or Hispanic or whatever some giant cross to bear. And it is extremely insulting to suggest that it is. But I think it tells you a lot about his mindset. I'm sure Gus would not appreciate being told that being Swedish is a problem. I would certainly never make that claim.
