This is why Manchin is still a Democrat. A Republican would have rolled over for Marino (like Moore Capito basically was doing).

Exactly! Manchin is very underpreciated. Without him, there would undoubtedly be a trumpish hack republican in his seat, would vote with Trump +90%, would no longer have obamacare as a result, would have an R in this seat, and we would lose one of our only voices of reason with Trump. As Jim justice (hate this fatty even more than Christie) rightfully pointed out, granted from the other side of the aisle now, Manchin is the voice of reason and communication and cooperation with Trump, and that is why he endorsed him. You can't keep all of your cake and eat it, but if you can pick 1 instead of none, then why the heck not? Trump listens to Manchin. Whether it is the drug czar, or a bipartisan dinner, Joe Manchin is always there, looking to work and be the voice of reason and communication across the aisle.

Back in 2010 Marino was not expected to win and many saw him as a weak and corrupt candidate. Some even figured his district would be made safely democratic for Carney (2007-2011), with Scranton being returned to the district to protect Barletta who was expected to win against Kanjorski.

However, the wave swept Marino in.

For the record, I was born in this district and lived here for most of the 1990's into the early 2000's.

So, do you like Marino, and more importantly, do you think he would have made a good drug czar?
