I am a self-proclaimed blue dog, but lipinski annoys me. he uses his blue dog status as a political token. also, newman is no socialist.

I personally don't care about putting effort into primarying incumbent congresscritters unless they are utterly terrible. Lipinski is a safe vote for the Democrats on everything but a couple wedge issues, which I don't see a need to cause a ruckus about (unless he would be spearheading efforts against the gays, which he is not). Not optimal if you are taking the Lipinski situation from a partisan hack perspective, but whatever. Like I said, I don't care. Lipinski will never be a deciding vote on a measure.

Such a safe vote that he voted against Obamacare. How "populist" of him!
I could agree if you said he represents his district. It is just untrue that he is not a blue dog

I've never seen incumbents endorse a primary opponent so easily, he must be a jerk or something.

Wow bernie, way to turn on the working class who you claim to be for. Lipinski is one of the good guys in congress and working class centrist Dems are a dying breed (Lipinski, Lynch, Peterson, Kind, etc.) My whole family was once working class democrats, but Bernie, Newman, and their whole SJW crusade jolted us across the aisle. Please, people of IL-3, keep Dan Lipinski as your congressman

Very good, great statement by a great poster.

What do you feel about the drive to remove Lipinski from office? From my understanding, this is a traditional working-class kind of district, and one with a kind of "working-class religious" tint.

I'm disgusted by the purist purges, and I really hope Lipinski can pull through, and I think it has tightened but he still holds the advantage.
No reason to not to them in safe d districts

This reminds me of one of the things that made me very mad about Obama. Someone undermines your legacy, doesn't even say he'll vote for Obama in 2012, yet Obama is acting like it is no big deal. I really hope Obama musters up the courage to endorse Newman and not let Lipinski get away with being a republican lite, especially in a safe district that Obama probably has a 70% approval in. Not saying Newman is perfect, but I am confident that she wouldn't have voted against Obamacare and would have voted for him. If Lipinski gets away with all of this, I may need to re-evaluate my membership of the democratic party, because this is unacceptable.

You're not necessarily a homophobe just by opposing gay marriage. And for me, it's perfectly reasonable if you still don't support it personally, while at the same time accepting that Obergefell is the law of the land.
Holy hell you are a terrible human being
This is Dems' problem today. If you ever disagree with them, you're "a terrible human being". Totalitarian.
If you disagree with basic human rights you're a terrible person. Sorry. Not sorry.

Really? Does it really make someone a terrible human being to be unable to shake of the socialization of generations of mainstream marginalization, but still be humble enough to overcome it and accept the times are changing, despite one's personal biases? Really?

The same thing with abortion: the point at which an embryo becomes a person isn't evident to the average person - you can have your beliefs, but they are learned; they're not intuitive. Does it really make someone a terrible person to have a different understanding about when life starts? And if not, does it really make them a terrible person to place a person's survival over a second person's bodily autonomy? It's not an objective answer, it's value-based.

Personally pro-choice and pro-LGBT rights, before you go ahead and call me a bigot myself.

The thing of it is, Lipinski hasn't overcome anything. He's still anti-LGBT, and votes that way.

What would you say about those Democrats who once opposed gay marriage? Do you think that this is such an issue to define a person's entire character by?
maybe not define a person, and I really dont care whether he believes in gay marriage or not, but you gotta represent your district, not your interests.
