Cuomo already has the Independence line.

Yes, but Giambra is running an independent center-right campaign.

Buffalo Chronicle - Cuomo considering dropping out and allowing Nixon to have the nomination, to preserve his reputation for a 2020 Presidential campaign, as a worst-case scenario

Nixon wins Erie, a couple random other counties, and some areas of NYC. As much as I want her to upset Cuomo, my expectations aren't that high.

Cuomo: 62%
Nixon: 37%
Other: 1%

According to comments on Nixon's social media, people are being told there is no such primary for Governor, so we're off to a great start.

And what is this about she shouldn't run on the WFP ticket? Molinaro stands no chance, and the message it would send establishment Dems. would be huge.

A couple of takeaways.

- Is tonight the death of the IDC? A good idea, executed horribly.

- Nixon's inability to hit 40%, let alone win any part of NYC proves that not every Bernie populist will see success, big name or not. Similar to Brianna Wu in Massachusetts, it doesn't matter if your name is affiliated with something popular if you have a horrible campaign staff.

- Is Williams giving Hochul a run for her money? It's close, but I'd still expect Hochul to win.

- Cuomo will stomp Molinaro in November.

- Tonight's Cuomo victory virtually confirms a 2020 Presidential campaign. I can't wait to watch it crash and burn.

- I really hope Zephyr Teachout settles for an Assemblywoman or State Senate seat one day. Clearly, Upstate NY is not a buyer of the politics she sells, but she's a great progressive with a lot of integrity. I would hate to see her career stop at two failed campaigns.

Nixon concedes on stage, saying she'll "still fight on" with a Working Families Party banner draped behind her.

NY State of Politics bluffs again; looks like it's Cuomo v. Molinaro v. Nixon v. Sharpe v. Hawkins.

It's easy to criticize Nixon tonight, but I'm glad that she challenged Cuomo for a few reasons:

(1) I'm sure that her presence in this contest benefited the IDC challengers.
(2) She made Cuomo sweat. A contested primary made some difference in terms of governance. More people are talking about Cuomo's role in the MTA's problems, for one. Moreover, this campaign exposed Cuomo's character more openly than we usually see. That won't be forgotten.
(3) Jumaane Williams came close to unseating Cuomo's Lieutenant Governor. Really, really close. Embarrassingly close, especially given that he pretty much left everything outside of the NYC metro uncontested.

I'm incredibly disappointed that a pro-Cuomo candidate will be our next Attorney General, but this night could have been much worse.

Don't forget that we still have Hawkins on the general election ballot.

Nixon implied that she isn't dropping the WFP ticket, so we'll have both Nixon and Hawkins to pick from.
