A state can't be racist. All states have racists, some more than others, and some MUCH more than others (like Alabama and West Virginia, for instance. )

More people are employed by Arby's in America than the entire coal industry, so I don't know what makes losing their votes such a big deal.

You're confused, they didn't lose those states due to coal mining voters, there aren't enough coal mining voters to swing any election in those states, not even West Virginia. The decline of coal towns is an evocative symbol of the greater decline of blue-collar working class and middle class opportunities in manufacturing and resource extraction industries, and these voters feel left behind and certainly don't like the environmentalism that has been embraced by the Democratic Party. But that's a much larger group of people that has been lost than just "coal miners."

The real reasons the Democrats lost ground in those states is because of the high concentration of White Christians, of which a significant faction of the group have coalesced into a highly tribalistic identity that is deeply anxious about the demographic and economic shifts occurring in the country. The Democrats have embraced these shifts, while the Republicans have taken a bullhorn under Trump that projects the anxieties of White Christian America onto the national stage.

Coal mining is a dying industry because more effective means of energy can be refined more cheaply than coal. Yeah, current coal miners and former coal miners blame environmentalism for killing coal, but it was actually natural gas and oil that sealed its fate.

It doesn't matter either. Even if Democrats relabled themselves the coal party, these regions would still not vote Democrat because the Democrats have become the party that White Christian America hates because they represent the changes they fear. Advocating for coal will not bring these voters back into the fold for the Democrats, the political environment has shifted since the late 90s and early 2000s.

If the democrats tomorrow became the party of social conservativism but FDR economically the it would be almost impossible for the republicans to win anywhere.

FWIW, the person I roomed with in my Junior Year of College was someone whose chief complaint about Hillary was abortion. At one point I did ask him if he would vote for Hillary if she was pro-life, and he essentially said, in a more sophisticated manner, "But her emails!". (He voted for Cruz in the primary,  strongly considered Castle/McMullin in the general, but came home to Trump at the last minute). Just because a democrat says what republicans want them to say on one issue doesn't mean republicans won't find some other fault with that democrat.

Well I’m considering endorsing joe manchin so yes I would maybe support jones if he were pro life.

Just because someone doesn't follow the perverted and political christianity that Falwell Jr and the Westboro church crowd follow does not mean they're a fake christian. Some of us Christian upheld verses like John 15:17 and Proverbs 19:17 more than Leviticus 18:22 and 1 Timothy 2:12.

It's incredibly suspicious that the accuser's lawyer won't allow the yearbook to be verified by a neutral third party.

I disagree, based on what I've learned about expert witnesses from friends in law enforcement. I doubt there is an objective way to validate conclusively the yearbook inscription; it ain't the Shroud of Turn where you can carbon-date the cotton, nor is it DNA. Surely the yearbook is actually from the 1970s. There are probably a million ways to spread doubt and uncertainty and make it a "both sides disagree" thing. Moore's campaign will certainly find experts to say it has to be false.

TV has given people false expectations that there are scientific tests of evidence that can apply everywhere. As far as this yearbook, I don't think there's much more we can do than assess with our own eyes, with circumstantial evidence, and with context.

Actually you maybe able to do DNA on the year book because if they can verify that Moore actually touched it then that’s a game changer.
