Wider conspiracy, I think it was organized crime.
So, RFK starts going after the mafia as Attorney General (who knows, coming from where they did, what sort of dealings the Kennedy family may have had with organized crime?) and then JFK gets shot by a guy who immediately starts screaming "I'm a patsy!" who, before he can stand trial, is shot by a man who is known to have connections to organized crime?
