It is the same here in Thailand - most Thais quite like KFC, but don't care for hamburger shops at all. 

Actually if you think about it, it is no suprise - Thais have eaten their own version of fried chicken for ages, as no doubt have most other countries.  However ground beef sandwiches are really quite alien to Asians.

I never go to KFC here, because if I want fried chicken I can go to a local chain 'Five Star Chicken', which are outdoor stands, with much more delicious chicken served with sticky rice for about 1/3 the price of the KFC.
