Why is it so easy to pass Constitutional amendments?

The Assembly merely votes and that puts them on the ballot.  It'll still require 2/3 majority when the people vote on it.

Press Release: Inks.LWC rejoins the Whig Party

After much consideration over the past few weeks, I have decided to return to the Whig Party.  There was no single reason for my change back, and I have no hard feelings toward the MCPR or Tmthforu94 whatsoever.  I simply feel that the Whig Party is a better fit for me.

Press Release: Inks.LWC comments on the recent votes by the citizens

Recently the citizens of this great region cast votes on 3 important issues.  I was happy to see a rejection of the amendments to bring back the Lt. Governor position and  change the Assembly size to a permanent 5 members.

I was also happy to see the citizens vote for the amendment to the alcohol bill, overruling the Assembly who rejected the bill in what I considered to be a severe disconnect with what the people of the region want.

I was very pleased with the turnout and outcome of these votes.

Press Release: Inks.LWC is running for reelection!

Yes, it's true.  I am running for reelection in next week's election.  Most of you already know my stances on policies.  I'll take questions if anyone has any.

Press Release: The Upcoming Gubernatorial Election

Fellow citizens, we are now days away from our next election, and in this election we have 2 great candidates for Governor.  I have known both of them a long time, and both of them, if elected, will serve this region very well.

It is for this reason that I have decided against endorsing anyone for that race.  I wish both of them the best, and I look forward to working with whoever is elected.

You have both my support and vote.

I have one question, though: Are you happy with your nearly 'life-time' position as Speaker of the Mideast Assembly or could you imagine to run for any other office again?

I've held every position in the region at one time or another, and I've run a couple times for federal positions, and was appointed to one.  My time as Governor saw one of the most successful periods of time for the Mideast, and I really enjoyed it.

But I love being in the Assembly, so as long as the citizens would like to keep me there, that's where I would like to stay.

Press Release from the Speaker

I have decided I will be releasing a weekly statistical analysis of activity in the Assembly for the session.  This will be released on Fridays but accounts for all activity for the session, not just the past week.  This will include a breakdown of the percentage of time that people vote or don't vote, and how often people cast a decisive vote (AYE/NAY) or abstain.

Final Votes: 13
Amendment Votes: 12

Gass326821%79%4%75%
Mr. X4%96%9%87%
TexasDemocrat5%95%5%89%

I also thought it'd be fun to break down the percentages that people vote with each other.  Any time a member did not vote, that vote was not counted; however an abstention was counted.

Press Release from the Inks.LWC

I encourage everyone to vote against the Amendment to the Amendment Amendment.  The purpose of this game is to elect officials to represent Atlasia, not to vote on issues.  Lowering the standard required here takes power away from representatives and puts it with average posters, and that's not what this game is about.  That's not our style of government.  If you want to vote on issues, go over to NationStates or a place like that, but the more we keep removing duties of elected officials, the more we remove the point of this game.

How could there be 90% and 91% in one session.

Presumably because the abstentions weren't counted.

Abstentions are counted, but for non-votes are not counted.  You had not voted on one of the abortion amendments, so that was not factored in.

Press Release from Speaker of the Assembly Inks.LWC

After having voted for an amendment to expand the Assembly, I have changed my opinion on it.  This game will not function properly if we continue to allow more and more people to hold office simply because there are more people running, especially on the regional level.  In doing so, we encourage people to move to the Mideast in an unproportional way that leads to activity elsewhere, such as the Midwest.  Therefore, I will be opposing this amendment when it comes up for a vote.
