I feel this poll might be a bit of an outlier.

2018 is a hugely-different environment than was 2016. 2016 had a midterm-like turnout, and 2018 looks as if it will be more like a general election.

Choosing the winner often depends upon figuring out not so much what people think, but who will vote. Trump will be turning out not only the Democratic base, but also the 'squishy' Democratic support.

I agree that we shouldn't put too much trust in Rasmussen, but 2016 had a pretty average presidential turnout. It was in no way close to a midterm-like turnout. That just isn't true.

This is new, right?

I have a hard time believing Trump would be so unpopular in an inelastic state like Georgia.

(Paging Mr. Brower.  Please report to your computer.)

Gallup Trump approvals in all 50 states

Cautionary note: this data was gathered throughout the whole of 2018, so take it with a grain of salt.  But it's a lot better than no data.  Summary:

Very interesting.
Thanks for posting this.

Interesting his approval in Texas is lower than Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

Harry Enten did say that the poll has been conducted among all adults and, in Texas, the difference between all adults and registered voters is one of the biggest one in the country.

Oh-oh, Ohio. Donald Trump won this state by 9% in 2016, Democrats gained nothing in the 2018 midterm election and fell short of winning a majority of votes statewide for House seats...

Baldwin-Wallace University, of which I have never heard.

Quote
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Just 39 percent of Ohio adults approve of President Donald Trump’s job performance, with almost three times more Ohioans telling Baldwin Wallace University pollsters that they they “strongly disapprove” of Trump’s handling of the presidency than those who said they “strongly approve.”

The poll of 1,361 Ohio adults taken from March 1-15 ended several days before Trump stirred up an Ohio controversy by blaming local union officials for the recent closure of General Motors’ Lordstown plant. Trump repeated those criticisms in last week’s visit to a Lima tank factory, where he also assailed the late Sen. John McCain’s voting record and complained that he wasn’t thanked for McCain’s funeral.

Even before those outbursts, 35.5 percent of those surveyed said they “strongly disapprove” of Trump. Sixty-seven percent of self-described Democrats provided that answer, as did 33 percent of men and 37 percent of women. Sixty-one percent of those who responded to the survey said they disapproved of Trump to some degree.

So much for Trump winning over blue-collar, Rust Belt America. I see a collapse.

Approval and disapproval ratings of Donald Trump:

With cumulative electoral vote totals in each category.

55% and higher 8
50-54% 9
49% or less and positive 38
tie (white)
44-49% and negative 91
40-43% 39
under 40%  140

An asterisk will be applied to any state in which the President's approval rating is above 43% for which the disapproval rating is 50% or higher.

No segregation of districts in Maine and Nebraska -- yet.

27 more states, and 193 electoral votes to go!

There is no way Trump's approval is so low in Ohio while he is around 42-43 nationwide.
