How much sway does he actually have over the army, would he be able to get enough of a consensus?

Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. If only Bolsonaro had actually been killed, or if Lula (ugh) could have run and actually won, or if people cold have just not been collective idiots and voted for a sane, smart, respectable candidate, the world right now would be a much better place.
Same happened in Colombia, the technocrat lost the left vote to a corrupt huckster, and thus voters chose the new conman for change. The Brazilian left could have rallied behind Ciro Gomes, ushering in a golden age. Instead, personality cultism took over and they rallied for a pathetic copy of a man arrested for corruption.
