I'm glad that today, unlike yesterday, the two teams in the group that have played the best football went through.

The Dutch were the worst non-Irish team in the tournament, so they still would have come in 4th IMO. It's just too bad that the Danes let in that 87th minute goal against Portugal.

Yeah, I keep thinking none of these German performances are that great, but on the other hand they have beaten three teams that are either very strong on paper (Holland) or have been among the best performers in the tournament (Portugal, Denmark).

Czech Republic v. Portugal
Germany v. Greece
Spain v. France
England v. Italy

Spain v. Portugal
England v. Greece

Spain v. England

Basically I've lost all faith in this tournament.

Özil is a third-generation German, so I'd be very surprised if he didn't consider himself German.

Hopefully the Greeks try to actually play soccer now, so it's a little less boring.

Hopefully the French player better in the second half. This is embarrassing.

Spain plays incredibly boring football. I really hope they don't win for that reason alone.

Italy has only scored four goals the entire tournament, two of them against by far the worst team in the tournament. I think Germany will be fine.

I hope Italy or Portugal wins it. I'm a huge fan of Buffon (and have been for as long as I can rememer him playing), and I also like Balotelli and Ronaldo.

Buffon I can understand. But Cristiano Ronaldo? How can anyone like him?

Because he's a fantastic player who's fun to watch.

I used to be one of those people that rooted for underdog, small teams to get through.

But those teams usually play boring, bad football that isn't very fun to watch. So now I just want the best teams (and Germany if they're not among them) to get through.

Italy didn't "deserve this very clearly", but they won and played well and finished their chances (well, Balotelli finished his chances) better than the Germans did.

Sure, but so could've Germany.

Anyway, at least we can take some solace in the fact that Obama and Casey will win re-election now.

I'll be hoping that Italy wins, obviously. Spain play really dreadfully boring ultra-defensive anti-football and it's time they lose.
