I had no idea he was still alive until now. Not a lot of '70's figures still live.

I had forgotten the man was alive until this thread was opened. Who are the last figures that served in congress during that decade, barring the current president?

Just going through Senators from the 96th Congress these are the members still alive;

Donald Stewart (D-AL), born 1940
Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ), born 1937
Gary Hart (D-CO), born 1936
Sam Nunn (D-GA), born 1938
Nancy Kassebaum (R-KS), born 1932
J. Bennett Johnston (D-LA), born 1932
George J. Mitchell (D-ME), born 1933
William Cohen (R-ME), born 1940
Donald Riegle (D-MI), born 1938
Rudy Boschwitz (R-MN), 1930
John Danforth (R-MO), born 1936
Max Baucus (D-MT), born 1941
Gordon J. Humphrey (R-NH), born 1940
Bill Bradley (D-NJ), born 1943
Harrison Schmitt (R-NM), born 1935
David Boren (D-OK), born 1941
Bob Packwood (R-OR), born 1932
Larry Pressler (R-SD), born 1942
Jim Sasser (D-TN, born 1936
Jake Garn (R-UT), born 1932
Patrick Leahy (D-VT), born 1940

There are still two candidates from the 1972 democratic primary alive today, Walter Fauntroy and Fred Harris. I can't imagine any 60s candidates have lasted this long.

According to Wikipedia Daniel J. Evans ran as a “favorite son” in the 1968 primaries and he’s still alive at 98
