I’m sorry to tell you, but you should stop believing Sanders when he tells you that Europe is a socialist paradise.
No, we don’t have free universal healthcare (public healthcare is only covering some risks and the quality of public healthcare is pretty bad, for example when you buy glasses in France the French social security will only cover a very small part of the cost of the glasses :2.4 euros to be exact)
Rather making fun on me, you should try to inform yourself a bit more about European politics and you would see that Macron for example is far closer to a moderate republican or eventually to Mike Bloomberg than a Democratic politician
Yes, that is correct, as there still are a few moderate Republicans. But then again, Macron's party is centre-right. The proof is in the pudding: he has now absorbed the main right-wing party.
This does NOT mean, however, that the Democratic party is left. If anything it's also pretty close to Macron, just a little less insensitive to social issues.
As for the glasses thing, have you ever been to the US and been ill? You sound like someone who's never had to spend more than €100 on anything health-related, but feels entitled to pay nothing at all.
Not saying that's the case, but it sounds like you have no clue just how devastatingly unfair the US healthcare system is for poor people. On a 3-day trip to Illinois a few years ago I had an bad allergy/asthma attack, and after checking in myself they charged $1500 for a few hours in a bed in the hospital.
Thankfully, this was covered by my EU healthcare.
Still, madness.
