If any of Bennet, Swalwell, Ryan, de Blasio or Moulton get in: they're idiots. They missed their chance.

de Blasio aside, they have lower name recognition than even Buttigieg or Yang. Do they even have unique policies or something to offer that sets them apart? Bullock and McAuliffe, too.

Beyond Hickenlooper, isn't Delaney already the other go-to boring moderate middle-aged white guy bipartisan compromise candidate?

Fair enough. Suppose Bennet, or any of these other guys, outshines the rest and becomes the top of the moderate institutional Democrats grouping. I'm assuming that there's room for only one or two of them to differentiate themselves. Do they end up as the Tim Pawlenty '12 or Evan Bayh '08 candidate of this race?

What I want to know if Kasich, Hogan, Sanberg, and Vague might run. Gotta love these side shows.

Please unstick this thread.

There is no point in keeping it pinned there, just because of Abrams or Kasich ... (all others are joke candidates).

Joke candidates are fun and good and 40% of the reason why this forum, and indeed democracy, exists.

Re-sticky this thread, another speculative target inbound!

Mark Sanford, SC Republican, former US Rep considers presidential run against Trump

Quote
Sanford, in an exclusive interview Tuesday with The Post and Courier, confirmed he will take the next month to formulate whether he will mount a potential run against Trump as a way of pushing a national debate about America’s mounting debt, deficit and government spending.

He would run as a Republican.

“Sometimes in life you’ve got to say what you’ve got to say, whether there’s an audience or not for that message,” Sanford said. “I feel convicted.”

...

“I’m a Republican. I think the Republican Party has lost its way on debt, spending and financial matters,” he said.

Sanford conceded he had been waiting to see if any other high-profile Republicans, such as former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, would primary the president.

If he finds a presidential run is not viable, Sanford said he might pursue setting up a think tank aimed at addressing the deficit.

now that's Joe Sestak energy

it's cool that with every presidential election the Libertarian Party exists to be a safe haven for former Rockefeller Republicans

Why doesn't the Green Party provide the same sort of thing for far left Democrats?

They ran Cynthia McKinney for President. How much more do they need to do to qualify as that for you?

When they do it in more often. The Libertarians have nominated both Gary Johnson and Bob Barr. So maybe the Greens should select Jay Inslee or Maxine Waters or somebody

Inslee isn’t Green as in far left, he’s green as that’s his shtick- to be the environmental focused candidate. Maybe he’d fit better in a Canadian or European Green Party than our can’t-call-it-socialist-to-be-electable-in-America Green Party.
