Governor's races in 2018 won't necessarily be about a reaction to the President of 2016. In 2002 The GOP only lost one seat, while two other independent govs went to the Dems.
Control of the legislatures in the next cycle will coincide with the presidential race of 2020, which is different than the off-year election of 2010. A popular president up for reelection in 2020 could have coattails for whichever party is incumbent.
