I have information that a new candidate may soon enter the Midwestern Senate race. I ask that we hold off on that one until he is ready to inform us of his intentions.

We should wait on a official endorsement for the Mideast, I agree with the previous opinions.

Midwest, actually. I think we have a pretty good candidate in the Mideast already. Wink

The RPP bylaws just say this:

Quote
You must be logged in to read this quote.

Interestingly, this isn't being held on the private forum. Perhaps that bylaw should be amended to strike the word "private".

Also there is a very good chance that there will soon be another RPPer in the race, so even if we had to endorse a member of our party that runs if there is one, that would be moot in this case.

I am fairly ambivalent about this move. I am however curious about the ramifications of this on the December elections.

You see, we have already had two members express interest in being candidates. One of them has a good chance at gaining office before then, but if he fails to do so, are we just going to bump one of the two potential candidates off to support RowanBrandon's re-election? I think that would be a mistake, but I'm interested to hear other opinions on the matter.

I wouldn't stay in a party that endorsed Rowan and I also know for a fact that if Rowan is a candidate, only one candidate is needed because that is the best we can do. Swing voters will run for the hills (aka Franzl).

I understand. I would like to know what terms he was welcomed back under, though.

I motion a renaming of the RPP to the Liberal Conservative Party.

I second this.

     I third this.

Classical liberal. Market liberal. Australian liberal. You get what I mean.

No terms are acceptable. None. If the leadership supported this, then I support instituting a new chairman.

Question: Why do you think you are boss of the RPP? I was told that "everyone was on board".

You were lied to.

Well, specifically I was told "anybody that matters" supports the move. So, make of that what you want.

The lords were on board, but the vassals had other plans, you see. Wink

You're not liberal in any sense. That's the DA.

Wait a minute, wasn't I the one who came up with this idea, PiT?

Originally, & I pitched it to various members. I think it was Devilman who came up with Liberal Conservative Party, exactly.

As a liberal conservative myself I'm not seeing it. I don't see anything remotely 'Cameronian' about the RPP.

You aren't looking.

I've been proposing adapted Tory 'liberal conservative' policy for the past two Senates Smiley Trust me I'd have noticed.

Of course if you want to go down that European ideological route then all the best to you.

I consider myself a liberal conservative or in Canada, a progressive conservative. I know that many of our members share similar ideologies.

Well good. I've been trying to coax conservatives in Atlasia over the ground where I've been standing for some time Smiley

Have you been keeping track of the NE assembly's work?

You do understand that when I say 'some time' I mean years right? Smiley

It certainly is the most sensible form of government. This NE Assembly session is largely based around the ideas of liberal conservatism and progressive reforms.

Yes; and I also understand the Assembly has mixed partisan membership.

The RPP has effective control, essentially because we control the speakership and have the larger alignment. Smiley

Well as I said if the party wants to embrace liberal conservatism then I'm pleased.

I don't like it, but I find it an acceptable compromise since a party embracing anarcho-capitalism wouldn't go very far.

I don't think I would never get a car that wasn't Japanese-made unless I could afford a Mercedes or BMW or something similar. I probably shouldn't given their history, but I like the quality of their products. Tongue

I don't like it, but I find it an acceptable compromise since a party embracing anarcho-capitalism wouldn't go very far.

There's alot to that ideology (particularly eminating from the 'hubs' of Britain and Sweden) you will probably not be too comfortable with. Besides the movement from American Conservatism to European conservatism requires the acceptance of various ideas that we accepted a generation or so back (American Conservatism for me went awry post Nixon/Ford) including reaching an understanding with the welfare state and using it to forumate and act on policy.

It also, as in Europe leaves the 'third' party in Atlasia (the DA) enough room to leapfrog the RPP to being more right wing on economic issues (like the German FDP) But that would be a few elections away at least!

Not to mention that from the American perspective, there does not appear to be much difference between the mainstream left & right in Europe. I suspect that is the source of much animosity towards Europe from the American right.

     Aye.

I think we could do better for a name than Liberal Conservative Party, though my favorite proposed name so far met just as fierce resistance as this.

Liberty Party would be a great name, though it might be seen as an overt bias towards the libertarian side of the party. New Torie Party is also a pretty good name.

Also, I'd be cool with running for President since MasterJedi has bowed out.

The ayes have it for the vote on whether to consider changing our name. This will be done in two rounds, each with approval voting. For those who do not know, approval voting means you can vote for as many names you would like. The second round will be between the top two names. Here is the list of names to vote on:

Regional Protection Party (RPP)
The New Tory Party(NTP)
Progressive Conservative Party(PCP)
Liberal Conservative Party(LCP)
United Conservative Party (UCP)
Write-in:______________________

Voting will last 24 hours for this round & 48 hours for the second round, if nobody objects to that.

I really don't understand why this Party exists in its present coalition. If we had a libertarianish Party that was totally separated from the theocrats, I'd be happy to vote for them.

Atlasia != America. Social Democrats & socialists are much more influential in the workings of the left-wing here (so much so that many IRL moderate Democrats make their home with the centrists instead). Furthermore, Atlasia is much more socially liberal, to the point that a bill was passed a few Senates ago legalizing most drugs. This extends to the right, where libertarians & libertarian-leaners hold considerable influence & frequently get elected to office (though there are none in prominent offices at the moment, that has mainly arisen as the result of a host of narrow losses for the RPP in the last few elections).

That's a short explanation of why I think libertarians are better served by aligning with the right here.

I thought of "progressive" as looking forward to the good things the future may hold while "conservative" is in touch with the positive aspects of the past. If anyone wants to call themselves conservatives, regional protectors, RPPers, or anything else along those lines, I wouldn't mind.

You guys really just renamed yourselves PCP?

The vote is currently 11-6. If we get 6 more voters in the next 25.5 hours (& if not all of them vote RPP), then the name will change to PCP.
