I had a feeling this was coming back. Wink

Anyway, this one seems shorter than the one last year. Is that correct, or am I forgetting its true length?

Actually, I just realized they don't have 24 hours. I posted them just after midnight, so time expires in less than hour. Tongue

Since there is no quorum, I am extending the vote another 24 hours from the original end time.

Aye

I think both amendments would require a subsequent amendment either way and I think there is still a concern about non using drug dealers being absolved of criminal liability in AZ's amendment.

Also as a note, while it is not impossible to hold two amendment votes at the same time, it is impossible to do so when the two amendments contradict each other. Therefore, since I have seen people trying to vote on AZ's at the same time, we will be voting on that next.

To go further on what I said before, I think we need to make a distinction between 1) Marijuana and other less severe drugs that would be more fully decriminalized/legalized and taxed and 2) hard drugs. And There should be a distinction made within the paradigm of hard drugs like say Heroine, Cocaine and such between addicts and traffickers.

The end user, the addict, should be treated as a victim suffering an illness, a victim of a crime committed by the pushers and traffickers. The former should receive extensive treatment from a medical stand point. And then you can debate about mandatory or what not within that context. However, for the latter group, unless we want to legalize hard drugs like was done pre-reset, we have to maintain some form of criminality and penalty for trafficking those drugs.

An obvious issue that concerns me here is that an enterprising attorney for an incarcerated felon could easily argue to a sympathetic judge that even the most basic deprivations of ordinary liberties as a result of their imprisonment constitutes physical or mental abuse.

My issues with the gender identity clause remain - it's unclear to me what 'go by the gender they identify with' actually means and in any event I can foresee a grim reality in which we decide that reaffirming a gender binary is inherently oppressive anyway and we end up passing a new bill to allow for agendered prisons or whatever. Down the route of excessive liberalism lies madness.

It sort of goes back to the involuntary servitude clause, which we roiled over for some time last year in regards to conscription. There again an enterprising attorney could likewise argue that all prison is a form of involuntary servitude and hence the need for the due process exclusion being present after the ban on such heretofore in the constitution.

I am currently writing up an amendment to allow job security to those convicted for drug abuse. Could you extend the objection period 12 hours or so, yankee?

I guess, but I think we are beyond 12 at this point.

March 16, 2018, 07:44:22 pm
March 14, 2018, 12:07:13 pm

3   16  2018  07:44:22
3   14  2018  12:07:13
0    2   0          5:37:09

= 53 hours, 37 minutes and 9 seconds since the request was made. Tongue

I would be very interested in that amendment though.
