His campaign would need to win one or both of IA/NV to be viable. Even then...

Any progressive with any pretension of self awareness would know that Beto is an establishment shill with movie star looks, an attractive wife, and a nice home in whatever El Paso's version of Parkland, FL. He's ran a (frighteningly) good campaign against a popular incumbent basically arguing "vote for me 'cause I'm cool."

He's basically the white straight male version of Kamala Harris. I thought you'd all detest him, but I'm not surprised at certain posters who have neither 'nads nor spine. Any Democrat who would choose Beto over Kamala is basically an unconsciously bigoted person.

but beto swears and was in a band

Beto O’rourke is the single most blatant example of a media-created candidate I have ever seen in my time following politics.

What the heck is his claim to fame?

In a matter of like a year he went from an unrecognized nobody in the house to a major national figure despite a failed senate bid.

I used to think Rubio held that title, but both Harris and now especially Beto blow Little Marco out of the water.

I’m torn on Sanders/Beto. Mostly because I think they would have the best chance of beating Trump but also changing the status quo in the country

Only if by changing the status quo you mean welcoming our own Macron, riots and all

I’m far from a socialist, but you have to be completely out of touch if you think education (secondary and higher), the wealth gap, and the environment are perfectly fine as they are now

Beto is not the candidate to fix those things

Beto reeks of an empty suit who will try to use his good looks and charisma to propel himself to a position he has not earned yet, and who the people would put their whole faith on, only to be sorely disappointed in the vein of Trudeau or Macron.

True, he's like an upgraded version of Jon Ossoff.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who was thinking this.

I understand the created-in-a-laboratory angle, but Ossoff avoided partisan or liberal comments, and Beto has staked his flag on the Democratic side on many points. Did Ossoff say anything like what Beto said about NFL protests?

NFL protests is exactly the type of vaporware issue that neoliberal stooges like Macron and Trudeau use to blind the left while screwing over the working class.

Beto has so many skeletons in his closet the left won't like if they bother to look.

We bothered to look. While it's sort of cool that he belonged to a hacking group, most of the other things aren't so cool.

The hacking story is stupid. There are far more meaningful things in his life to care about.

The two most important states in 2020 will be Florida & Wisconsin. If Beto were to become the nominee I'd like to see him pick the man who came within half a percent of winning the race for governor of Florida, Andrew Gillum. Together, they would comprise a talented (and both youthful and highly energetic) team. Of course, the primary thing lacking on this ticket would be a woman. Amendment 4 (Voting Rights Restoration) having been passed and now implemented in Florida, could create a situation where a narrow loss in '18 becomes a narrow win in '20. Beto would need to constantly campaign in Wisconsin and Gillum would need to double down on Florida. WINNING EITHER STATE SHOULD BE ENOUGH (OVER 270 ELECTORS) TO SEND THEM TO THE WHITE HOUSE. YOUTHFUL AND ENERGETIC DEM TICKETS WIN!

Picking Gillum would be a good way to ensure Trump wins Florida.

The party of inclusivity. Purple heart

Attacking Beto and his drunk driving issues is fine, but bringing his heritage into it, not so much. Very typical, GOP party leadership continuing to be gutter garbage as usual.

His Irish heritage wouldn't be notable if he didn't try to pass himself off as Hispanic via a nickname which was intentionally contrived to make him more electable in El Paso:

In the backdrop of the city's multicultural community, his father, Pat O'Rourke, a consummate politician, once explained why he nicknamed his son Beto: Nicknames are common in Mexico and along the border, and if he ever ran for office in El Paso, the odds of being elected in this mostly Mexican-American city were far greater with a name like Beto than Robert Francis O'Rourke.

Ill vote for Beto....but he'd better pack the SCOTUS

Beto (along with Biden) is probably the least likely to court pack.

Calling Beto O'Rourke "Robert O'Rourke" is going to be the new version of calling the Democratic Party "the Democrat Party," isn't it?

Conservatives are horrible at being clever with insults.

Says the people that came up with "drumpf".

That's not an insult though, it was his family name and it sounds silly.

You're defending someone complaining about literally using O'Rourke's given name.

Beto was a punching bag last night, he needs to be the boxer next time and start throwing punches or all debates will end up with him as the loser

Maybe he's actually using a rope-a-dope strategy and setting expectations super low for debate two.
