Maybe they care about helping people, unlike the republicans here who are cold hearted in that area.
From what I've seen many of the Republicans here are actually significantly more moderate than the party leadership. People like Soult, Andrew, Torie, etc. would be accused of being RINOs in the current climate. Like I said, the forum tilts left.
Also not viewing government intervention as practical or desirable /=/ selfishness.
A lot of the D-regulars like JSJourner, Lief, jFern, GMantis, etc. trend towards the HARD left economically. They're basically 'Social Democrats,' self-identified or not. Plus this forum is significantly to the left of the american discourse in general. In some ways that's great, in others not so much.
Yeah I hate Obama supporters, all being economic leftists and all
Its not socialism, its having care about those who don't have much.
I would call heavy taxation, large work/entitlement programs, bail outs, protectionism, etc. social democratic policies. Which basically makes it 'diet' socialism. Not significant
ownership of industry, but heavy redistribution of wealth and regulation.
