Just in case anyone thinks I'm being a hack by saying I wouldn't avoid any of these cities because of crime, there are some cities I would avoid visiting for safety reasons: Rafah, Gaza; Jalalabad, Afghanistan; al-Atarib, Syria; Krasnohorivka, Ukraine; el-Fasher, Sudan... and many, many others!

But I hear Port-au-Prince is just lovely this time of year!

I’d be shocked if Port-au-Prince’s homicide rate is higher than East St. Louis’ to be honest.

Also, didn’t you say-

"Crime concerns" aren't a factor when determining whether to visit somewhere.

The topic was asking about American cities, so my comment applied to traveling around the US.

I recognize that we are a nation of gun-toting sociopaths with an insanely high level of mass shootings, but (a) that can happen in any corner of this country, and (b) the probability of getting shot while out and about anywhere is still statistically negligible.

This is true of Haiti as well.

Probably only Gary and East St Louis, less because of the crime but because there's exactly Jack all to do there to warrant any crime risk, or even just the gas money.

Even then, say if I were visiting friends in St Louis and they suggested we go out to the couple casinos in East St Louis for the evening, I'd say sure.

Honduras has a lower homicide rate than most cities on this list. Would you feel safe going to
Honduras?
