I'm not concerned about the very poor, and neither are most Americans.  They give money to charities, in the hope that it helps the few who have encountered tragedy in their lives.  The rest?  Largely responsible for their own situation.

Americans are for lifting up the deserving and helping those who face difficulties.  People who suck at life?  They can drown.

There's a word for people like you. First syllable of 'country', in case you'd not guessed. I think in your case we can extend it somewhat; perhaps by adding 'obnoxious' in front of it. Perhaps things could be done with words like 'scum' and 'reprobate', and I suppose a case exists for the use of 'depraved'.

I didn't know c*nt is pronounced that way.

How did you think it was pronounced? I'm just wondering; I can't think of any other way that it could be pronounced.

Or maybe I'm pronouncing "country" wrong, who knows ? I'd say "cantri" (with the latin sound for "a") - or even "cawntri" with an almost inaudible w - and "cont".

You realise you're not actually a fictional politician, just some guy on an obscure internet forum, right? Who is the intended audience of this vapid drivel?

I still don't understand how a thread celebrating insults of one poster to another is allowed to exist if people are regularly being infracted for insulting one another.  Seems a bit....counter productive.  Even more so when you look at how many mods are posting and being quoted in it.

You're a damn killjoy, aren't you ?

I hate the concept that apparently a political view can't be criticized for being ignorant or bigoted because "it's just my opinion" and that needs to be respected because it's a free country and everyone's beliefs are equal. And at the same time we're not supposed to use inflammatory words or phrases, we're allowed to hold views that are perfect examples of them. As long as no one points it out and the wording is "nice", ignorance and bigotry are ok.

The general prevailing concepts of respecting things for the sake of being respectful, the devaluing and overvaluing of simple words, and the apparent need to model political discourse off the absurd, semantics-based system of lies our politicians operate on is just lazy and completely ignorant. All our values seem to be either mixed up, misplaced, or made up in this country. It's embarrassing.

I like to pretend that BushOK doesn't exist any more.  I don't just mean as a poster, but as an actual person.  It's easier on my general sense of humanity that way.

Sometimes simple things are the best.

Does the US electorate agree with the birther stuff that Obama was not born here?

I for one symphatise with the birthers.  Obama has not conclusively proved his birth and Sheriff Arpaio is doing an investigation.

Republicans should use the birther issue more.  Why are they not pursuing it?

You're an idiot, you know.

I'll be honest, clarence's post rubbed me the wrong way.  As in, he comes across as a total asshole there (though to be quite honest, that's not really rare).

I mean like wow, what a big man this is viciously insulting a foreigner who has less than perfect English......

Come on, you know that wasn't the point.

Wait, are people here claiming that vengeance is not a valid foundation of the justice system? I would argue it is the only sensible (and, yes, rational foundation).

What else would be the purpose of the justice system?

Maintaining a civilized society where everybody is treated equally?

Seriously, this is one of the most reactionary posts I've ever read. And coming from Gustaf that says a lot.

Because I'm obviously so reactionary...px has that very sad quality of always trying to be a smartass without grasping what the discussion is actually about. Well, it's more amusing than sad I guess.

You're not reactionary, but your comment clearly was.

I'll be gracious and assume you've read the same philosophical dissertations on this subject that I have and will soon post your reasons for disagreeing with them then.

The only alternative would be that you're an arrogant teenager with a lot less knowledge than you think and a lack of awareness of that situation.

Do you have a point apart from the usual ad hominems ?

The idea that justice is only a veiled vengeance ? Yeah, I think one can reasonably deem it reactionary even without having read all the philosophical essays on the issue.

My point is that your streams of consciousness are not interesting or worthwhile.  At first I thought it was just something you do in print, but then not too long ago I watched one of your YouTube videos you did for fantasyland.  It was meant to be a campaign ad or speech or something, but of course you just rambled on for ten minutes about god knows what - or at least I assume you continued to do so after I gave up two minutes in.  Incredible.  What a personality you must have.  Even your running mate told us in IRC that he wishes you would shut up.

Guys, Dora the Explorer is little a show for 2-3 year olds. It's like if someone made a thread on here complaining about wearing diapers or drinking out of sippy cups or going to daycare.

Or like if somebody made a thread dedicated entirely to their opinions on another children's show, say something like "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" or some such thing.

Might belong in the good post thread as well, but the snap value is great.

PPP polls are extremely biased in favor of Democrats.  Much of their polling in the recent Wisconsin recall showed Tom Barrett narrowly beating Scott Walker.  Their most recent poll of the presidential election in Michigan (a swing state) has President Obama leading by 14 points, while a new poll from a Lansing-based pollster shows Mitt Romney leading in MI by 1 point.  Some of PPP's other polls have shown President Obama leading by 10 points or more in some other key swing states, such as Colorado, and there's no way he's that far ahead in those states.

You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of the English language. When a candidate, such as Scott Walker, is ahead by 3-5 points, we consider them to be "beating" their opponent, such as Tom Barrett. Also, in English, we consider the word "much" to mean "greater than 50%", not "1/5", as you seem to consider it to mean. According to current polling, Michigan is decidedly not a swing state. While 14 points may be a tad high, the polling average of all polls (not just one poll from EPIC/MRA) has Obama ahead by 6.8%, with Nate Silver's model projecting Obama winning by 9 points. 14 points, while high, is not outside of the realm of possibility. The Colorado poll (from April), while less excusable, is old, and the Purple Strategies, NBC/Marist, and Keating Research (NOT the Rassy) polls should be used instead, being more current.

Al often gets lazy with his retorts and is just needlessly rude and insulting, but when he really tries then no other poster can match him.

Nonsense.  Some of us matched and exceeded the catty old thing before we were muzzled.

I actually feel bad for Clinton.  He has an awfully ugly pig to put lipstick on.

I didn't know that you hired Clinton as your make-up artist.

Outside of the schoolyard, answering a petty insult with another tu quoque petty insult is hardly an example of wit.

Not necessarily. It is the way it is phrased that makes all the difference.

Who are you? What are you? It's not possible, even for the internet standards, someone can be that hopelessly stupid. Please tell me you're just trying (and failing) to be a funny troll. Otherwise, I will lost all remaining (and there's little) faith in humanity, science and nature combined. I refuse to believe the nature produced something like you. This world is already badly f**ked up but, for the love of God, there must be some limits!

Your posts causes my brain cells to die, slowly and in unspeakable pain. You are a monster, a villain but, please, at least don't be a sincere monster.

I don't understand how a generally sensible poster like Lief can be a monarchist. Heck, I don't understand how anyone enough in touch with modernity to post on an internet forum can be a monarchist.

I'm a monarchist.
What part of "generally sensible" do you not understand? Wink
