I'm really sorry to hear that, Traininthedistance. You understandably may not want to discuss this with strangers on an internet forum, but you should at least talk about it to people whom you know care about you. In my experience, talking to people about what makes us sad is the only way out.

Sad Hopefully things turn around for your cat. Mine was in the vet for a couple nights and just got back today. She wasn't eating and had gotten pretty lethargic. Turns out she has pancreatitis. It's scary when your cat is 12 years old and you start having to confront the fact that she won't be around forever. I feel for ya.

Also, I'm bi.

You took this trope quite literally, it seems. Wink

I understand if some of the more socon posters with whom I'm friendly aren't entirely comfortable with or accepting of this but I'd like to ask that they do the courtesy of not giving me grief over it. If anybody else gives me grief over it, I'll treat it as personal attack and use the report function accordingly.

Anyone who would do that clearly doesn't deserve your friendliness.

Anyway, I'd never thought I'd say this, but I think Grumps said it best than I ever could. I wish you best, my friend.

Just throwing this out there, but I'd never be able to have a roommate. Even if he was a decent guy and not one of the 100 kinds of assholes that you find in college, I probably wouldn't be able to cohabit with a complete stranger in such a small space. I really need my privacy.

Aren't you still in college?  Do they let you opt out of having a roommate or something?

Like most French universities, Sciences Po doesn't have dorms. I still live in my parent's house. And in SF, I expressly asked for a single room and got it.

You go to Sciences Po?! I did not know that!

Really? I think I mentioned it quite a few times throughout the past few years.

The whole idea of moving away to live in a dorm for college seems to be largely an American phenomenon, yes (Canada too?).

How else would you do it, unless you happen to live near a decent school that suits you?

You generally buy an apartment in the city where the university is located. Or you accept to have a 1-hour commute time, as I did. Wink

That's what I had assumed. But, Christ, an hour? I thought didn't tolerate that nonsense over there.

I had a pretty hard time getting used to it, but I eventually did. Over a week, this actually adds up to about 8-10 more hours lost, which is a lot considering that the typical academic class-time is of about 20 hours. On the other hands, having parents around saves me countless more hours (think cooking, etc.). Wink

Black people and white people are different culturally.

This is a silly generalisation. Black people and white people are not homogenous groups; I know you know there may be white people who are "culturally" closer to blacks than other whites and vice versa.

Yeah, obviously I agree that Scott's words were silly and full of pretty awful implications, these kind of generalizations are VERY problematic themselves. Generally one should avoid sentences like "[insert racial group] are X".

An old friend of mine (with a previous history of mental issues) may have tried/be trying to kill herself, I'm not up on the details and I feel helpless, especially because she lives in another state now and has deleted her Facebook account.

Is there any person of her entourage that you could contact?

The girl I like is in one of my classes again. I'm not going to get into a full-blown song and dance about her but I've caught feels and I'm fine with it.

Been there. You have my sympathy and best wishes.

CNN BREAKING NEWS: UNCONFIRMED REPORTS THAT SAWX GOT LAID; HEAVY CELEBRATIONS REPORTED IN FORUM COMMUNITY BOARD; PRESIDENT OBAMA TO MAKE STATEMENT AT 5:45 PM EST.

Hahahaha y'all have no chill. Just found out the girl I like has a thing for me too.

Looks like CNN's reporting fails once again. Tongue

The problem was that I didn't want to be Monica.

Anyways, got f**ked over by one of my best friends, and that wound up hurting more than getting my heart broken.

Really sorry to hear that, mate. Stay strong, life is tough some days, but eventually I hold out the belief that everything will sort itself.
