Can we please stop with the unfunny OC parodies? As if this board didn't have enough sh*tposting already.

Don't let common sense and a grounded understanding of margins of error get in the way of typical Atlas overreaction... Roll Eyes

538 still has the seat as a tossup, where it should be.

If Poliquin's lawsuit to end ranked choice voting gets all the way to the U.S Supreme Court, how will the justices rule?

I think it'll be 5-4 in favor of Poliquin (similar reasoning to Bush v. Gore, just change the names of the justices involved...with the exception of Clarence Thomas), but what do you think?

There is no rational legal case for Poliquin. There won't be 4 Justices to even take up the case.

I've heard (from Nathan) that LePage needs to certify the election's results? What happens if he refuses to?

That's a far more credible threat than the SCOTUS stepping in, since they need at least the pretense of a coherent legal case and Poliquin hasn't provided that.

Couldn't Mills just certify it once she gets in?

Does she take office before or after the new Congress is seated?

Poliquin is really setting himself up nicely for a rematch, isn't he?

If it happens and I lived in ME 2. I would 100% vote for Golden even if he is a communist #populist. He won fair and square with RCV.
I don’t think he runs again. There are three (potential) candidates who could beat Golden in 2020: Brakey, who won two counties in the 2nd over Angus. Trey Stewart, who at 24 was just elected minority whip in the Maine House. And Garrett Mason, who was Minority whip in the Maine Senate and ran the only competent Republican campaign for Governor (though LePage’s chosen candidate won every county).

Im saying if there was an SE in the 2nd because the courts say RCV is unconstitutional.

That will not happen.

In Bruce Poliquin’s repeated legal attacks on IRV, he’s done nothing but create a precedent for not only IRV, but all other alternative voting methods as well.

Thanks Bruce!

Plaintiffs don't create precedents - courts do. And courts so far have consistently refused to do so.
