Down year for the SEC?

Tennessee is down 28-23 to Georgia State in the 4th.
Arkansas is down 10-6 to Portland State at halftime.
Ole Miss lost to Memphis.
Florida beat Miami, but looked awful doing it.
Alabama is up big on Duke late, but they were scoreless after the first quarter.

And Missouri (basically SEC in name only anyway) is getting blown out by Wyoming right now Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Wyoming upsets Mizzou 37-31! Kelly Bryant couldn't save them apparently....

Not a shocker. I always suspected Bryant won all those games at Clemson because of the other talent, not because of himself.

I suspect (although we don't know for sure yet) that Mississippi State got lucky when Bryant didn't pick us, opening the door for us to later get Tommy Stevens instead.

It's 2019. We don't do that anymore.

Odds on Joe Moorhead returning to Mississippi State in 2020 are rapidly plummeting.

I miss the Pac 12 of 2011-2014 when they were the 2nd best conference year after year and in 2012 arguably the best conference . The BCS robbed the Ducks blind in 2012 when they awarded Alabama number 2 spot over Oregon despite the fact that Alabama lost to a far worse team than Oregon did by a larger margin as well .

I so wish there was a playoff that year because the would have won it all that year

2014 Mark Helfrich completely blew the title game with horrible coaching which foreshadowed how bad 2016-17 would be once the bulk of the team no longer was there

While you're obviously correct that there should have been a playoff in 2012 and any other year, Alabama lost to Texas A&M (finished #t5 that year), while Oregon lost to Stanford (finished #7 that year). Alabama beat 3 teams that finished ranked (not counting Notre Dame) - 14 LSU, t5 Georgia, and 24 Michigan, while Oregon's only win over a team that finished ranked was 20 Oregon State. Alabama also won the SEC, while Oregon didn't win the Pac-12.

On a related subject, what's your opinion of Mark Helfrich? He seems like a guy who would be a sneaky good hire at Mississippi State. Sure, he was bad that one year, but over 4 years, he was 37-16 (24-12 Pac-12) with two top 10 finishes and a playoff. Even in 2016, he had several close losses and it looks like they struggled with a true freshman QB who's really good now as a senior.

Our best years with Dan Mullen were running a HUNH run-oriented spread, and Helfrich is a guy who can bring that back, and he has what seems like a good resume on top of that.

I'm a little late to this discussion, but I feel the need to point out that basically everyone who is a fan of any of the 14 SEC teams believes there is a widespread anti-SEC bias among college football media and the selection committee.

After Monday's inevitable victory, I'd like to announce that I am bringing my full-time fandom to Starkville. The best coach at the best SEC school. Match made in heaven. Thank you useless Washington lieutenant governor.

I'm so f***ing excited.

Were Trump and Melania known to be attending the game?  They're on the field for the colors presentation and anthem.

Got a better cheer/boo mix than he did in the World Series, but still not a great one. No real surprise.
